Default 1JZ VVTI upgrade turbo - HELP

    Hey fellas
    In need of some advice

I have a 1JZ VVTI in which i would like to upgrade the original turbo setup. It was only until the other day that i found out that the manifold on this motor is different to the older 1jz. Can anyone advise me of any turbo kits available for this motor that will simply bolt up to my manifold with little modifications. Your help is much apptreciated as it seems there is lttle information about upgrade or anything for that matter in regards to this motor.

    Cheers

There may be some turbo kits available for the VVTi 1JZ in Japan, but over here they are hard to find.

Best option would be to have a custom manifold made up, or the standard manifold modified to suit a turbo from the Garrett range. If you need some info on having a custom manifold made, let me know and I may be able to help.

I concur with Forcefed6. I was speaking to a friend who blew the turbo on his vvti 1J. He found a Blitz?? kit out of Japan that fitted, but said it was a lucky find.

I need a working 4AGE bottom end. Pref smallport GZE, but all others considered. Also complete motors.
Drift Volvo. Was fun. 2JZ next time.

I would contact John from Importbitz (forum sponsor) - he is king of finding turbo kits from Japan.

HKS do a bolt on 2835 from memory, but the stock turbo manifold isn't that great for aftermarket turbo's, you could make more power with a custom manifold with nice collector etc.

HKS, Apexi, Blitz etc all do full kits for the JZX1xx's

Yeah thanx for the replies guys,
I done some reserach on the HKS bolt ons, and the price was phenominal. starting from $2800 and up for the bolt on turbo.

Food for thought, but its lot of money considering you can get a Brand new Garrett GT35 for $1650.
I guess i'll have to keep a eye out for a second hand one or get a custom manifold to suit,

    Cheers.

Default Re: 1JZ VVTI upgrade turbo - Rebuild + Hi flow

I have decided to hi flow and rebuild the current (CT15b) turbo on my 1jz for better specifications (i.e. bigger steel wheel etc + Hi flow). Does anyone know of any professional people in Sydney who this?

Has any one done that to a CT15B, i would be interested in the results of a high flow CT15B with steel wheels. What do you think the cost would be around ?.

PM The Real Roadrunner, he has a magazine with VVTi 1J manifolds in it, he'll be able to tell you the company I'm sure. They were pretty exxy though, $1200 starting point! The JZX100 forums would probably be a good spot to check as well.

What sort of power levels are you after? Ive owned two of these engines now and I was making 212rwkw with a stock turbo and 295rwkw with a HKS GT3040. With the stock turbo the car was much nicer to drive, lag was un-noticeable. With the HKS job it's certainly got the goods up top, but isnt as nice down low

I'am ideally looking at about 300rwkw. The only mods i have are 530cc injectors, PWR FMIC, 3 inch turbo back, Greddy e manage piggyback. It has the R154 gearbox. I have not tuned it as of yet, as i want to upgrade the turbo setup before. GCG has quoted me $1150 for a full rebuild and high flow, however i dont know if that will allow me to achieve my goal of 300rwkw.

I would be doubtful also. If you can get the specs that they are going to highflow it to then you could compare with the garrett range to get an idea how much power is possible with them. I couldn't see it being much bigger than a GT30 though. Having said that, it is possible to make some good power with a gt30 sized turbo.

At the end of the day, it is only a dyno number though I would think a jzx100 with 250rwkw would be pretty bloody fast. If you could get it off the line well, should run low 12's@about 110-112mph.

    These are the specifications:
    (1) High Flow the Turbo
    (2) Replace ceramic wheel with a steel wheel.
    (3) Change all seals, O Rings and perform a complete rebuild.

I Spoke to Mike. He was really helpfull.
