    Default Who stole my boost!

    Well,

Since doing the 175mm mod to the car, it feels a bit quicker, but up top it has a air bleeding noise. Hooked up my boost gauge temporarily and it confirmed that boost hits 10psi instantly and won't go any higher, as revs rise the bleed noise gets louder...

We have done the ABV Mod correctly as best we can tell...

ABV T'd into the BrownVSV to Manifold Line. Blue VSV capped @ ABV end and the other line goes to throttle body.

Any ideas on where zee boost is?

Make sure the belt is pretty tight, have you used the supplied belt with the pulley kit? It needs to be pretty tight to get the boost going on right

The belt has been done up pretty tight, it is something we will however check once more.

There was no sign of belt screech noise....

The boost shoots up to 10psi from as little as 1500rpm and then stops at a wall at 10psi.

    Thanks for the help.

i have removed the ABV altogether and just put a plate in teh position with a gasket.

My mate also runs 175mm pulley. he had heaps of dramas with belt slip. it seemed that the belt was tight but it was still slipping. after really tightening the belt the boost went straight upto 13psi (14 on a cold night). the car is sweet to drive now too.

he is running a large front mount too, this may contribute to the boost level

yeah even if there's no screeching noise you should get atleast 11.5psi of boost.

Are you sure youv'e done the abv mod right? tried replacing the vacuum lines? have you capped off the nipples when doing the abv?

We capped the nipple off on the blue VSV where it went to the ABV, as per the instructions gained from an Rob's GZE sight that is dead and can only be found using the webback machine . Also found a big MR2 SC document with all sorts of info on the ABV mod and replacement ABVs to get etc.

We tried the ABV mod as per this page and had no luck. The only difference was to cap the line that goes into the throttle body and leave the blueVSV completely disconnected.

We'll try tightening the belt in a couple of days when we get the gauge mounted in the cluster rather than having a passenger hold it

doesn't the ABV work as a pressure limiting vent also? i can't remember if the mods stop that behaviour or not...

remove the bugger and see if that is it or just cap it at the manifold (or insert large foreign object into pipe between ABV and SC...)

if the ABV is tee'd into the vacum line from brown fuel VSV to the inlet manifold when on boost it will keep the diaphram closed in the ABV.
a slightly loose belt 'can' sound a bit like a air leak.

i agree with removeing it alltogether, makes it easier to check the s/c oil then too.

ABV is satan. Just plate it off, it'll free up some room, look a lot better, and garuntee you no leakage. I had a similare problem with my MR2, I'm running a 165mm pulley and it's making 10psi flat.

Actually (and this come from a very reliable source), Lucas is responsible for some of the biggest misconceptions about the english. Fans of old english cars and planes alike have a very peculiar callouse on the end of their right-hand pointer finger.

And for the same reason, the Poms drink warm beer. Not because they like it, but because they all have busted-arse old Lucas fridges...

If you want a cheap solution, then find 6 20c coins and insert thes into the ABV pipe. They are a friction fit into the rubber pipe, and with the 6 of them in there will not dislodge or move at all. Completely seals off your ABV line

Also check the rubber on the end of the supercharger outlet, quite a few of those i have seen crack or leak there due to the odd angle and the change in diameter.
