are you sure its a water hose?
sounds like the oil drain to me, the smallport has this, but the bigport does not.
block it off and it will be fine.
Hi everyone,
I have just put a bigport head onto my smallport gze block. I have a problem. There is a water hose that use to go into the smallport head at the intake side at the back. The bigport does not have this hose. Do I just block it up or should I re-route the hose??
Cheers

If you're talking about this thing:
then its the oil drain as shinybluesteel said. Either just block it off or you can drill a drain into the head. Blocking it off is the far far easier option.
Eddie.
4agte finally completed. 234rwkw @ 8125rpm. Tis fun
Sweet.
Thanks a lot guys.
just drill a hole in the head and stick a funnel in the block, all will be sweet.
now gimme my spacer bitch!
its not actually a drain, although oil would drain back through it. its a breather. but anyway block it up itll be fine.
no actually it is an oil drain. Toyota identified a problem with the bigport head that made it fill up with oil under constant high rpm, which then came out the breather - and into the intake. So rather than increase the size of the oil galleries, they added an external oil drain to the smallport head. 20V heads have larger oil galleries so it is not present on those.

judging by it's size - i think you are both right
remember - the 4age tilts to the exhaust side a few degrees, so this "pipe" is on the high side of the engine, and thus would not be a dedicated drain.
I think it would serve both functions.
...... butt scratcher?!
The Oil Drain was only for the AE92 Smallport motor - only ever designed for FWD installation. The engine tilts slightly back (towards the inlet) in this configuration.
