    Default EMS stinger 4424

    Hey,

Can anyone tell me what the EMS Stinger 4424 is like, i think i just picked one up for $100 less loom.

I know nothing about it and the only reason i got it is cos it came with a motor i just bought.

I want to know if there any good for RWDing a 4AGE 20V running coil packs?
what sort of $$$ are they worth new and second hand?
how much can i pick up a new loom for?
and just anything about the EMS Stinger in general?

I seruiosly now nothing about them

    Thanks

Check out their website, should have all the info that you need to know.

    www.enginemanagementsystem.com

As for what the stinger is like, we have one running a fj20 non turbo, individual coils, in a pro lite off road buggy. with only a pod filter and crap exhaust it made 86rwkw.

I also have an 8860 running a 7MGTE in a ma61, never had a problem with either of them. Software updates are free from their website & they upgrade to the latest spec's upon request. They also have Data Acquisition Systems.

They are quite good for their price.
The benefits are that if it breaks, they will have a look at it and test it for you first. It can be used on pretty much any car rather than have to be remapped like the older microwrecks and from memory they have a couple more outputs compared to other systems in the same pricerange.

As for tuning, they are fairly common and alot of tuners know how to deal with them.

A new wiring loom also costs about $110 deliveres australia wide if you needed one.

Lastly, check the serial number that is starts with a 4, which means that its the latest revision of the board. This means you can upgrade the firmware to the latest. Some version3 Stinger 4424's can also be upgraded but not all. I would personally stay away from version1 and version2 as the firmware cannot be upgraded unless the board is upgraded aswell.

The latest firmware also fixes quite a few bugs and add a couple more features in the software from memory. If im confused with any of the info above please correct me but im pretty sure thats about right.

it depends on what series 4424 "stinger" it is as to what it is capable of.

You might need to contact EMS with the serial number from the ECU to find out what series it is.

The first number of the serial number depicts what series 4424 it is.
You are after one that starts with 4 or higher.

So are the gen 2 and 3 models just totally useless or would it be possible to get a good result with say for example a gen 3 3sge with say 280°+ cams, 11:1 CR and maybe later on itb's?

I'm not interested in having the latest and greatest features, just something that will do the basics well so the engine runs nicely and is reasonably efficient.

$200 is damn cheap... the least I've seen one for is 600.

I've got an early one (version 2 I think) and while the software is quite shittily designed, it works ok (sucks that I can't use the updated v3 or v4 software). I'm using it on an internally standard blacktop 20v (i.e. 11:1 comp + ITBs) and its running well in TPS mode. You also have the option of map sensing mode (the ecu has a map sensor built in which you just hook up a vac line onto)

I'd say with your kind if setup you WILL need to get it dyno tuned, but if your brave enough you could try using a wide band, and some kind of knock sense setup to D.I.Y....

OK thanks...I was intending to get it tuned on the dyno cos I don't have any tuning experience although I would love give it a shot with a wideband...could be a good learning experience!

Love your car by the way. For some reason I always thought you had a haltech. Mine is for an AW11 as well. It is a toss up between blacktop and gen3 3sge...basically whichever one comes up first for a reasonable price.

How doe the EMS go with the vvti on the blacktop...have you maintained the intelligent part or is it just switch on and off now?
