I'm working on the fuel system for my 500bhp set up on my Soarer, I've got a Bosch 044 pump ready to go in question is:
This appears not to be an in tank pump but an inline one, can I keep my existing fuel pump in place & T the 044 inline further downstream?
Obviously the original one will doing some work but the one ahead of it will be roviding the main pressure, are there any issues with this set up? I assume the original will be able to keep up at lower pressures?
Or do I need a surge tank. Would like avoid having to fit a surge in the car as regs dictate it'd be needed to firwalled off & I use the boot & interior space for carrying tyres to events.

OK Just measured the free flow rate of the 1JZ pump
1min 15 secs for 5L of fuel so thats 240L per hour free flowing, which is'nt much at all is it??

not really no....
how much fuel is 500hp? if it less than 240L/hr, the if you have th rail returning to surge tank, then all good

My 044 flowed 1.5 litres in 25 seconds against my 2JZ fuel pressure reg with an atmospheric reference. Thats 216 litres per hour. The car makes 476rwhp with an auto. So you will easily be fine with the flow from the stock pump feeding the 044. If anything it will help the 044 a tiny bit.
Just done some more calcs & that looks like plenty, should make life easier to not have to rig a surge tank too. I'll run new wiring to the pump as no doubt its a big draw on the system.

also of interest, the 044 can be made to be an intank pump (which I've just done on my JZA80 supra)

there's how to do it for a JZA80... I'm sure you or someone knowledgeable could adapy it for a soarer![]()
Excellent suff will do exactly that then, I like quiet pumps!!!

I mounted mine in the tank of my R31 and its loud. A mate mounted his in the boot of his R31 and its quiet. My brother mounted his under the car just above the diff in his soarer and its insanely loud. Another mate put his in his Aristo tank and its also very loud.
from what I've heard from the several JZA80 guys who've mounted it in-tank, it's quieter than external, but... well, it's an 044 - they're almost always loud![]()
I have a lower pressure pump filling a swirl pot, that has an 044 following it, I should have let you have a listen to see what you thought. I don't think it is too excessively loud. I think it's quite good to be able to hear that it's still working !![]()
Well... I'm gonna be different...( as I've been informed by Walbro engineers....) you can't expect proper pump operation, for the intank pump WILL act as a restricted line for the inline pump. You will NOT get the total volume of the Bosch pump and it may lead to a pump failure
remove the intank pump, plumb in a proper pick up tube and mount the inline as close as you can to the pick up tube. That way the Bosch pump will perform as specs say it will... OR change the bosch pump into an intank (As Draven suggested) and be done with it
