Nice One, I like it very very much!
Finally got her in! Making this Europes first 1UZ MA61
Quick question though for anyone who knows....
Does a MK3 Supra steering rack fit a MK2? As the angle the MK2 rack comes out at doesnt give me a hell of a lot of room for headers I got some Tundra 2UZ XS Power ones but im gonna have to modify them to get them to fit unless i can move the angle of the rack shaft....

speak to cruzida, i know he had a plan with his headers and 1uz in his mz10 soarer
Definitely not. The MkIII rack is mounted forward of the axle while the MkII rack is behind the axle, ie totally different setups.Originally Posted by UZA61

It's hard to fit anything other than the (incredibly crap) crown log headers.
Cruzida had headers made, as did I - there is still very little room to make them, so it's a bunch of compromises even when going from scratch.
Tundra headers in an IS200 had to be modified (a lot), but the MA61 has more room, so they might fit with less mods - who knows try it and tell us how you go
Good luck!
Also, I'd muck around with headers before considering changing steering components... in Australia the former requires nothing, whereas the latter would require engineering certification.

Wow, thats looking great. I'd be interested in some pics of the engine mounts and crank to radiator clearance aswell as firewall clearance.

if the JZ engines can fit in an ma61 with room for thermos, I'm sure the 1U would have plenty of room (relatively)
thanks for the input peeps. Im trying to find out if PWR can do me an alu rad with thermo fans.
There is a guy who used to have a silver ma61 with a 2jz in it and he had a pwr rad, but pwr must have made it custom as they cant remember doing it.
Anyone else know where i can get a ma61 rad with thermo fans from?
standard ma61 + AU falcon thermos. I ran this setup on my old 1jz ma61 with no issues. it was pretty close to the water pump (just made the 10mm legal limit), with a 1UZ you should ahve no issues.
The AU falcon thermos have an integrated shroud which will need some chopping to fit the ma61 rad, but it's fairly close.
Just get your factory rad recored and check the top & bottom tanks. I was lucky enough to get my hands on a brand new top tank.
Will save you a decent amount of dosh over a PWR item.
I've seen alot of Supras on cs.com use MA70 radiators as a base for aftermarket radiators. Its easy to mock up custom lower brackets for the MA70 radiator, there's a group buy thread with some pics on cs.com and also a few pics of my lower bracket in my 7MGTE conversion thread in this section somewhere.
Edit: Here's the thread on cs.com

And pics of my bracket spread over 4 or so pages starting here.

I'm with Draven, just make sure your factory radiator is in top nick. My 1GGTE equipped car has been punished in in 38 degree heat, and I've never seen the temp over 84 degrees.

Just out of interest, I notice there are crazy-cheap alloy radiators on eBay now. I haven't actually seen one but if they're similar quality to the crazy-cheap eBay intercoolers they should be a good thing! If and when my radiator needs upgrading I reckon I'll be investigating this option.

My MX83 with 1UZ sitting in it is currently having the exhaust done, and I'm going with 4>1 1.75" pipes, and there seems to be enough room there. I can't see that the MA61 steering rack/strut towers/etc. are going to be much different or cause any real issues for you.
I think its more the fact that custom extractors aren't in the budget right now, and hoping to mod something factory is.Originally Posted by mrshin
