My rule of thumb is, aftermarket cams = aftermarket ecu.
Hey guys well the 1uz is now finally gunna start happening and its time to start actually collecting some parts for it.
The plan is to eventually supercharge the 1UZ that i am putting into my JZA80, however it wont be happening straight away as i plan on getting the car all engineered etc etc with the NA 1uz first (people in WA will understand the massive wait there is with the pits at the moment) Basically i dont want to running around in a stock NA 1uz so i figure i may aswell do some mods while i get around to supercharging it.
Definate mods straight up so far are extractors, exhaust system, intake. I also have an aftermarket computer but i may wait until the SC is installed to wire that in. Depending what standard ecu will handle mods wise, and whether i go manual straight up too.
So my question is:
Is there any cams available that will be better for the NA motor but still be better than the factory ones would have been when i install the custom super charger setup.
Im assuming SC cams would be a fair bit different to cams designed for NA motors?
But is there a compromise that will give me better power for both NA and SC? Or can i resolve most issues with cam gears? IE valve overlap....
Im not very technical with cams as i've never really mucked around with them.
Cheers
Matty

Ditto. If you have the ECU install it. If there are any teething problems, it's better for them to happen when it's not supercharged.

Just keep in mind you may not be able to get it engineered with after market ecu.
And yep cams prety much = ecu.
Get reg with it all factory then mess with it.
MATT.
P.S. They are not to painfull slow with a standard 1UZ.
We generally don't have that issue in WA, providing you don't tell them, they don't look.Originally Posted by FASTFOO

Ya, keep the wiring neat and they're not likely to bat an eyelid....they may be wondering why my dizzy cap doesn't have any leads out of it though.

They prolly arent painfully slow, but i dunno, just wont feel like much of an upgrade if i dont mod it straight away hehe i have a 1uz in my crown which is kinda cool, but not fast fast....peewees soarer on the other hand
Maybe extractors and free flow exhaust will be enough to keep me happy until engineering is out of the way.....
Peewee do you have cams in yours? I have found prices around the $1600 mark, but that seems a bit excessive...$1600 buys quite a few nos refills
Nathan i agree it will help me solve silly issues if i get it installed before i supercharge, but as mentioned my concern is with the pits....once they find something like that it is too hard to hide....

No cams, $1600 is about the going price.
NOS however... is now illegal to have installed on a road car...

Can pm if preffered....
Cheers

13.8, with no LSD.... (single spinning love).
