Also check the floats don't have any holes in them and aren't filling up with fuel and sinking.

Can happen on Webers. Brass floats can be soldered up if they get holes, but thats pretty rare. More likely to be a plastic type float splitting which would probably require replacing.

drowned it in carby cleaner last night,

carbies are balanced, perfectly and balance pipes blocked off (on the manifold)

fixing the timing chain over the coming week.

the loose venturi WILL have SOME effect, when i pulled it apart the venturi had rotated, therefor the main jet wasn't getting any fuel on #1.

float bowls and jets all look clean as a whistle.. nothing wrong there...
floats appear good, no suspicion of leaks there.(plastic floats too btw)

Also I had a problem once with it blowing flams out the carbie and the valve clearance was 0.00mm and holding the Inlet valve open. It ran like shit

have now isolated ONE problem, the one mentioned in post #7 (piss poor running under load/above about 3000rpm) the number 1 main venturi had come loose, the 2 screws that hold it in place have both vibrated out, and the venturi had turned in the throat...

SO... now i'm looking for 2 replacement screw to hold in the venturi... you'll know the ones i'm talking about if you have them...

still to find the flat spot problem, (unless the venturi was causing that too, all repairs pending test drive)
i would be worried about where them screws went..... if they got sucked into compression chamber you may have a larger problem.

gotcha now. yeah you would be in trouble if they had made it in, and happy you only had a small flat spot.

Here's a site I came across recently that explains the setting up/tuning of webers in quite simple terms and may help some people experiencing difficulties with webers http://www2.soc.lu.se/~socjal/dosjeb...load/carbs.pdf have a look it may help.

And I thought Webers never got their venturis loose.

I can send you two screws for gratis, Rad28. PM me with address.

Drill crosswise holes in all screws and wire them in pairs on each barrel.

    Regards

cheers rodger, but i already got them sorted, weber screws already have wire holes drilled in them, but for some reason standard setup is to use a small thin plate which has tabs bent up that goes under the head of the screws in pairs, much the same config as though you were wiring them up... it's just less effective...

alrighty guys... was playing with my car tonight, trying to iron out that flat spot which has been plagueing me for so long, and i found it... but i'm not sure whether it was my ignition timing adjustment, or these mystery screws... the screws below (circled in red) aren't listed in my weber manual, so i have absolutly NO idea what they're for.. the 2 screws to the left are Idle mixture (upper left) and Progression port insepection plug (lower left)..

any idea what this screw is for?

I'll have a look at my webbers and get back to you.

    Edit (Rather than double post)

    - It appears to be the progression hole cover.

Make sure the O rings are all good, it may be sucking a slight amount of air.
