Allrighty! Have finally got all the bits needed to at last get the beast running. I got me a Ra23 running a 1ggze running a turbo and M48 motec. The car previously had a 1ggte motor in it running a distributor, the gze runs a crank angle sensor. As I dont know shit all about crank angle sensors, distributors or even wires for that matter. I noticed that the dizzy and the c.a.s has the same plug, included a couple of pics, can I just plug the c.a.s in and be done with it? I also need to re-wire the xf throttle replacing the stock item. From the motec loom are green red and black wires, and the stock throttle loom is yellow with blue stripe this one has been cut (dont know what it is but its oviously not needed) blue with white stripe, white with red stripe and brown. On the motec loom green - white with red stripe, red - blue with white stripe, black to brown. On the xf throttle loom there is white with blue stripe, yellow with blue stripe and white with red stripe, which ones goes to which?

Get the rest of the car ready to run and have someone who knows what they are doing to finish it, its far too easy to stuff it up and spend days trying to figure out why it doesn't start. The motec if you look down further will only have 3 wires for the TPS, the XF has 3 wires as well. You will have 5 volt signal, earth, and output wire, the motec will tell you which is which in the wiring diagram, and the google the XF tps wiring diagram to see which is which here, just join the corresponding wires to the correct positions.
As for the CAS, they should interchange, you need to pull the top off the old dizzy and the new CAS, and see which colour wires on the plug are connected, and which sensor they go to in the dizzy, there are 2, 1 reads TDC and the other is cylinder position. The one with heaps of teeth, I think toyota is 36, is the one that should be picking up on, but just check where the wiring went in your old dizzy, and make sure its the same spot in the CAS.

Car is complete and ready to go apart from the throttle and c.a.s, just had a look at both dizzy and c.a.s and the wires inside are almost identicle. When my car was wired up all plugs were different so they only go in one place. putting up another couple of pics, can someone tell me if this is how i set the c.a.s to put in on top dead center??? Oh and i'll have a look on google for the xf info, cheers Kyle![]()

Can't tell shit from the pictures, just look at the old and new dizzy, see which colour wires are used and which sensor they go to(there are 2 in each dizzy) and make sure its the same on both.
Kyle.
Agree with Kyle. The wire colours are the big give away with those dizzies...
Also, you appear to have a reluctor item. I would personally recommend getting it modified to be a hall effect switch (I know there's guys here in melb that can do it) and you'll have a far more reliable, easy to use item.
i second strads suggestion of killing the reluctor. hall effect one million times easier to use
GA23(never finished-now with cracked block) JZX83 (Tyre eater) 3sgte AE86. by now i should know better.
It works fine on a motec to 10000rpm the way it is, don't complcate things for him kids![]()

Pfft, reluctors suck man.. Bring on the hall effect sensor... ;-)
To be perfectly honest I'm amazed that a reluctor can work fine to 10k, PARTICULARLY the toyota ones!
VR sensors are finem sensible things that don't need a low-voltage power source to run - the variable voltage output just screws with badly-designed input circuits. Plus when folks make the gaps too big it exacerbates that issue.
Yeah, that sounds plausible to me, I'd go with bad engineering on the signal conditioning side of things......the variable voltage output just screws with badly-designed input circuits.
If a VR sensor can't be designed to be bullet proof nothing can. Magnets, steel, copper wire - there is not much that is simpler or more robust - no semiconductors to shit themselves, no optics to get dirty....
I have had a bit to do with various engine projects at two different companies and VR is almost always used for the crankshaft position system...I am talking OEM applications too on high revving two stroke and four strokes.
