    Default auto trans cooler lines

So I've got the auto trans lines on the a340e that came with the 1uz.

They are solid, and a solid pain in the arse.

What have people done to replace auto trans lines with something more useable and flexible?

how does the hose attach to the box? can I just hose clamp it onto a cut off part of the metal pipe?

Cut the steel pipe off someplace convenient, use a double flare tool to put a small lip on the end of the pipe, and use a hoseclamp. Auto trans cooler hose doesn't cost that much at any car parts place/hose and fittings place.

i was lent this special tool to cut the solid lines so i could fit a high pressure hose over it with a hose clamp.. and yea this has worked, no leaks and no sign it will leak..has been going strong for 10,000 kms and the car just sold, straight into a 16 hour journey..

braided lines are an options but very expensive and not worth it for just a normal daily imo.. i paid 20 bucks for that length of hose, some clamps and 10 minutes with the cutting tool

edit : oh i had to use the tool because when i cut it initially i kinked the line.. the tool is small and sort of cuts around the pipe if you know what i mean..

strad: just use rubber hose with worm-drive clamps that don't cut the hose ... and make sure you get the right ID of the hose. Toyota power-steering hard lines seem to be larger than local items.

What, you mean like a Pipe Cutter.
    Who woulda thunk it.

I know you have already gone for the rubber hose, but to reinforce why you don't need to pay through the nose for braided is why do you need a hose with a burst pressure of 1500-3000PSI. I'd rather a hose go then a gearbox/cooler/etc.

I got rid of my hardline metal trans lines a few years ago and replaced with standard transmission hose, never had a problem. Just keep it well clear of your exhaust components.
