    Default boost controller for 1g

    hi guys,
As im in the proccess of getting my standard twin turbos rebuilt on my 1ggte i thought it would be a good time to buy a boost controller as well!
just curious as to wat you would suggest would be a good one for this motor?
and im not right into the technical side of this sort of thing so how hard are they to hook up? and can i run one with a standard computer?
    thanks for any help!
heres a couple that sound alright that i found on ebay!
    cheers rollsy

for what sounds like a basically stock motor I would get a turbotech one from ebay. Best $30 you will spend. Although the other options you have mentioned are good IMO they won't give you much for your money. You can also use a solenoid to have a 2-stage in car setup with that turbotech unit.

Quote easy to install, fine with standard ECU up to about 15psi (safe level).

yea the more i think about it there is probably other things i should do before i spend that sort of money on a boost controller.. but i would like a 2 stage in car setup.. so how do i go about setting one up exactly? like i said i know a bit about mechanical but not good with this sort of stuff! lol
    cheers

I'd get the valve first and see how traction is, you might find that you have no traction issues in which case there isn't much point doing a 2 stage. I guess if you want to use less fuel on boost or less heart attacks in the rain it would be worth it.

I haven't done my 2-stage yet so I can't give you any details, I'm sure someone else will chip in. Basically you use an electric solenoid from an A/C system I believe and use it to switch between a line with the boost controller in it and a straight through line to the waste gate actuator. Not sure if you can get a solenoid that can switch one input between two outputs, that would make it pretty easy.

I agree with the above. Stock car so just use a bleed valve. Although my turbotech did spike but it could have been the 8mm hose instead of 6mm I now have. Lots of people have had good luck with them. Won't hold it as steady as an EBC or bring it on as fast but it will increase boost and that is what you want

Also, check autospeed as they did a thing about making a cheap boost controller that can bring boost on quickly like an EBC. Or you could buy my hiperboost which already does that and you don't have to make it (I just upgraded to an EBC but my car is far from stock)

I would not piss on Hyperboost if it was on fire...biggest bullshit product and the guys is full of shit...sorry had to be said.....
The box melted, it spiked, it does not hold steady boost. Looks cheap, built cheap, bustard made good profit from me. Only positive its recyclable...

providing your fuel injected the jaycar boost controller is pretty nice.
its not closed loop but its got a reasonable programming resoloution and it does what you tell it to do. worked v nicely on my ae71 , after i spent a few hours getting it perfect.
also its only about $110 inc a hand controller for a electronic boost controller.

I have a question, what is your approx figure to rebuild the stock turbos? Also are you have anything done on them to make them "better" then stock?

was quoted between $1100-1200 depending on how buggered they are.. (havent got around to pulling em off yet! )
and yes was going to look at getting them high flowed (think thats wat it called! lol)

and sillycar no not really interested in big single anymore.. its in a 4wd so huge power isnt something im really chasing.. and would cost more that 1200 to go single..

    cheers
