I brought myself a ra60 off my mates boss (ex loan car for a panle beaters) for 300 bucks because it ran out of reg and decided to turn it into a drift car, figured the easest way to do this was change the engine to the 1g-gte. Figured we'd also put a buget on this car of 4 grand everything will be done in house as my family own a engineering business so i have all the resorces.
Heres the dirty ol pig after being given a classic spray can panda paint job.
Needless to say all the sound deadener and interior were striped.
Brought the half cut a week or so ago and got to work stripping both cars of the driveline.
Needless to say i didnt know that 1g's came in a variety of cars and i also didnt know that they came out with a variety of sumps and i got stuck with a mid sump but i figured may as well give it ago see what happens.
Obviously the usuall stuff that ive read on hear happend, sump sat on the x member.
But i illogated a few holes which allowed me to reverse the sump and with a modification to the pick up i was able to fit it in.
.
I got the engine and box in today but im not to sure on position so i can start making my mounts because i get the tail shaft in but the dust cover (tailshaft side doesnt sits about 10 mm shy off being fully engauged. which means the engine needs to come back but ive only got about 10mm before the fire wall ish.
Now ive done quite a long search couldnt find anything besides one guy saying a slight "massage" of the fire wall will do it
Is that the only way or have i misssed out on something?
If any ones got any pics of 1g-gtes in ra60's it would be appreciated
its easier to make the driveshaft longer than it is to move the whole engine past the firewall.
but at least if you move the engine back youll decrease the polar inertia of the car
whatever you wanna do.
GA23(never finished-now with cracked block) JZX83 (Tyre eater) 3sgte AE86. by now i should know better.
ok, just finished the conversion your doing. We used the mid mount position on the engine with the supra alloy mounts, to do this we had to cut down the mount brackets on the xmember , but everything fitted well with the drive train! we used the w58 supra box and reversed the g/box mount 180 degrees. The drive shafts were the original celica jobs and fit perfect. We also had a new radiator built to fit the hole on the front side of the radiator support panel to give more room at the front. The result is lovely balance and handeling with great traction....to a point, a boost controller took care of that lol. Hope this helps
Yeah it does, im was initially going to make a radiator and put it where you did as well, good to see my brain wasnt asleep then.
Also good to know about the gear box mount i was going to check tonight but wasnt to sure if i had to make up another no drama though
The custom rad I got made uses a aluminium porshe carrera turbo core with cross flow tanks and utilised a camera head tank up near the fire wall to keep it higher than the donk(must do other wise you will have probs with steam pockets in your donk). This fills the hole perfectly and should be good for 600hp (at least thats what the rad specialist told me).
Cost: 550 for the rad
20 for the head tank see local wreckers for that
Used the camera tank cause its nice and small at fits well on the extreme left hand side and easy to mount on the lh guard.![]()
Dont know bout the RA60 but in my 28 the gearbox crossmember had to shift back 1 inch whch meant welding angle to the ends to pickup the 2nd chasis bolt hole because it moved backwards.
simple mod though.
