    Default ra60 engine upgrade

hi all, i have a 82 ra60, motor is making funny noises and i think that it is time to rebuild it or replace it. I have read alot about 1g upgrades but still not to sure how easy or hard the conversion is to do. I would like to put something in it that will bolt straight in with no hassels.

The car is daily driven so i dont want to go to the max.

Can anyone give me a few suggestions that are not to expensive.

    cheers. steve.

The closest you'll get to a "bolt in" conversion is the 22R-E from an RA65, but that's such a small upgrade it's barely worth it. For a proper upgrade the 1G is about as cheap and easy as it gets. If this is too difficult/expensive, engine conversions are not for you.

You could mess around with 18RG, but personally I wouldn't bother, start with a 1G, or go for something a touch more daring.

Yup. I think a V6 commodore engine would be easy to do aswell.

You can buy a kit for an old hilux (they used the same engine as you have now) and Im sure the engine mounts would fit. then wire the sucker up. Get some EFI working BAM! You'll need some custom exhaust pipework too.

If you can do it yourself. Maybe $1K5?

    On the other hand.....

A Hilux conversion kit would not come close to working in an RA60. A Commodore V6 conversion would be no easier than a 1G conversion, in fact it would be harder!

i dont think there are any conversions that score under about 8 out of 10 difficulty. its just some conversions are way harder than 10 out of 10 and that makes people think there are easy alternatives.
engine conversions are stressful, expensive, difficult and often have unexpected dramas.
i love em, but it doesnt mean i like em.
