Default Fuel cooler / fuel temp

Type of car - Precisely tuned high performance.

Purpose: Wanting to run dual exhaust. (wank factor +1)

Problem: Heat radiation / soak from muffler sitting underneath fuel tank.

Info: 1. Factory equip dual exhaust vehicles fitted with simple heat shield
    2. Vehicles using a return line from fuel rail often fitted with aluminium finned cooler.

    Purposed solution:

Granted this type of car will more than likely be fitted with a swirl / surge tank.
Fuel cooler will restrict anything but low pressure flow, providing more time to radiate heat.

Fuel tank -> low pressure lift pump -> inline fuel cooling radiator -> large capacity fuel cell or secondary surge tank -> primary surge tank -> high pressure pump -> fuel delivery.

    Questions:

Would a secondary cooler circulating fuel from the tank be more beneficial than cooling fuel in the supply line.
    - While fuel in the supply line is cooled, fuel in the tank gets hotter and hotter.

I realise cooler fuel makes only minimal difference to performance however cooler fuel is more dense, allowing for a better tune at a more stable temperature range. Add hot fuel and the engine could run lean.

    Is it even nesassary ?

    What setup's have you seen?

    Insulate the area.

well.. considering you have identified the reason for your potentially costly problem....

you should probably remove the reason

dual exhaust = wanky and hot fuel....

what was the reason for wanting it again? (to make car much quieter?)

Can always count on Oldcorollas to come up with the break through.

or just heat shield the crap out of it

it depends how close.... a combination of air gaps (with metal sheets) and insulative matting might well work.. how much clearance do you have between exhaust and tank? (hot exhaust and fuel is never a good mix tho .. but some stock cars have them fairly close)

The new common rail diesel Cruiser, Prado and Hilux all have under car fuel cooling radiators on the return line. Due to the massive pressure the fuel gets put under, it heats up. If it was continually sent back to the tank like this the temps would just get higher and higher.

The cooler on these just looks like a big heatsink mounted on the floorpan. Dunno how you would go with petrol...

Car in question is ke70 / ae71 - more or less beside the point... its the theory im interested in...

    Clearance would max at 30 - 40mm

Most camrys / aurions have half of that. Single piece of heat shielding.

Gavatron has named the exact fuel coolers i had in mind.
