Hey Guys,
My mate is a mechanic and my car is currently at his house. We have the steering rack all loose, ready to come out the side of the car, he's just called me to say that its basically impossible to get out cause its too big, Now we talked about jacking up the motor to try and get it out (not sure if this will work- Opinions?!?)
If anyone here has pulled one out before (cause mine is fucked - getting it rebuilt) please a little bit of insight would be great before my mate bursts into tears.
I havent actually seen the car, Im just posting here for idea's cause he doesnt have a toymods account.
So at the moment, its sitting there, but stuck basically. any help would be great, even similar information if youve done one on a 185 or 205 etc
Cheers
-Josh.

The glass is neither half empty nor half full, rather the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.
I think he managed to get it out last night, but cheers for that![]()
Its a simple but can be frustrating job that. ... are the steering racks interchangable throughout the gtfours?

No they are not.
Well 205 is different from 185. 165 is probably different too.
162 rack might be the same as 165.
Check toyodiy for the part numbers.

What a thread revival
ST165 and ST162 steering racks have different part numbers for the gear assembly and gasket kits, I remember looking into this a couple of years back. Pretty sure an ST162 rack would fit... but fortunately I didn't end up having to swap racks, just the HP line.
I am the sun
Turning cirlce is different between the st162 and 165.
......problem I have is I got it reconditioned yet me, and a few other people who have driven it that I have asked agree..(some one here may have had it too at some stage).... The steering seems to want to go one way after turning, then when you turn it back and it sits that way not coming back to center .. fulcrum say it is the "load bearing in the shaft"..... maybe it was tightened up too tight when recon'd. the cars almost completed and I want a good rack, couldnt be fucked going back and complaining, had a good lot of that in the rebuild of the 165. hahaha. over it. ..get a brand spanker somehow.
