The lack of exhaust manifold attachmentOriginally Posted by whatthe?

Turbo was loose on the manifold. The exhaust gases escaping destroyed the flange gasket. When i took the manifold off I discovered a hairline crack in one of the welds where the T25 flange is welded on, so whilst the manifold was already off I decided to get the weld fixed

you gotta love Wakefield. Last time I was there, I cracked the turbo clean of the flange and also cracked the plenum from one end to the other.
awesome track, but takes plenty of victims as well. looking at the pics, seems there were a couple of cars taken down thru out the day.
how was the car overall anyways Matt. Looks like a very nice setup. Who is going to be tuning the MOTEC for you??
Car was very quick and handled well when it was on the track. The VVTi being sorted out will make it a bit puchier out of corners I suspect, as 3rd gear was a bit too high whilst 2nd gear was a bit too low for some corners as it is now.
These things happen sometimes, I'm not too upset about what happened, it is a fresh conversion after all and the turbo and manifold were still attached to the engine when it went into this car. It's nice and tight now, now harm done. The motec tune is being organised by Brett from All Style Automotive, apparently the tuner is a bit of a motec guru and is recommended by the motec distributers. Cant remember his name though![]()

Sounds the goods mate. I guess until you get a few kms under your belt you can expect a few little gremlins to pop up in a fresh conversion.
Thats half the fun of conversions isnt it?
Gave a few of the old timers with their dedicated track cars a bit of a scare when it was out on the track I think. Quite a few wandered over for a look and a chat when it was in the pitsIt's just so stealthy that looking at it you wouldnt suspect it does 200kmh on the straight

Not wrong!! Always seems to be something to improve, but thats just cars in general. Wouldnt it be nice to have something that was just perfect. You can always go faster too!Originally Posted by whatthe?
Cant wait to see it in the flesh mate, looks quality in all the pics.
I had a great day with a few morning sessions then the timing belt snapped coming onto the straight (sorry for the hold up while I got towed off) then a few hours was spent going to Goulburn, grab a new timing belt, a puller for the harmonic balancer and other bits, head back to the track and work on the car.
Thanks to Justen for all the help, we got it dismantled, new belt fitted, reassembled and back out on the track for two more sessions in the arvo.
Would have been nice to not spend half the day working on the car but I was just glad it was fixable and able to be driven home.
I got some track tips from Garth which can be summarised as - "Harden the phuck up and drive harder"![]()
The Lexus looked damn good on the track for the short time it was on there, very nice indeed.
Looking forward to heading back again in the not too distant future![]()

A nice quick shut down meant no damage hey? You often hear of the major damage and carnage a snapped timing belt can cause. Did you get any warning that is was about to let go?Originally Posted by YLD-16L
