only new to this forum but thought i'd put my 2 cents in and tell ya's my plan for this same mod. im putting a lux diff under my ford escort and will be using falcon eb rear discs and calipers. but for the handbrake i will have a second caliper on each disc hooked directly to a hydraulic handbrake. car is gonna be primarily used for drift. just thought i'd put ideas in some of ya heads.

Provided the car will be used for track duties only that will be fine, but hydraulic handrakes are illegal and wont pass engineering/roadworthy.

in all seriousness, the current drums will do a better job than the r31 discs as far as the handbrake is concerned. the r31 handbrake is useless, and if ur want to improve your handbraking capabilities, your definatly going BACKWARDS by removing the drums to install the R31 gear.

Just go with the MA70 option, if you cant afford it then stick with your drums.

Is it possible to put the ma70 stuff on a r31 diff?

my son has does hilux diff conversions for mazdas, use the el/ef rear rotor, there skinnier, and 307mm round, the r31 caliper fits over them better and he has the backing plates laser cut out of 10mm stainless already,

Hmm, might be interested also. So am I correct in saying that all you would need is the backing plate that would attach to the r31 caliper and then the EL/EF rotors go straight onto that backing plate and all bolts up?

Discs spin so the only thing they can bolt to are the axles. I think backing plate is getting confused with a caliper mount. A backing plate is tin like and prevents objects contacting the spinning disc. Caliper mount is made of 10-12-14mm plate and holds the caliper where it needs to be.

    Definately interested in the mounts

I've seen people start with 25mm plate. Milling from a thick plate to allow the caliper to be offset mounted
