    Default 4agze Ignition Timing problem

Hey everyone, i did search but it didnt help.

My problem is when i first got my gze it was going okay, then i had to take the CAS out to take the exhaust manifold off, and i aligned the marks on the CAS housing to the gear mark and put it back in with the engine on TDC and the car when twice as good as when i first got it, but then i got a timing light, bridged terminals T and E and set the timing, but when i bridged the 2 terminals the engine light would flash like its suposed to but the idle wouldnt change, seems to be set around 15degrres now, but is just goign really crap...can anyone help?

So did you set the timing when the terminals are bridged? You need to set it to 10 degrees BTDC and when you remove the bridge wire it should return to 16 degrees. Is that whats happening?

its staying the same, no matter if the terminal is bridged of not, it idles at like 2,000rpm nomatter if its bridged or normal, but reads about 10-15 its hard to tell cause i dont have the timign cover on, so i put it to tdc then marketed the pulley then used the tensoner spike as a guild, its advanced about 1cm off the spike

Check out the link above i posted. Are you using a timing light? If so maybe the cas is one tooth out.

To make 100% sure its inserted correctly, pull the CAS cover off and with the CAS out line up the marks on the front of it. Then use a pen or texta to mark where the pickup is sitting on the inside. Then when you insert it make sure it lines up with you texta/pen mark.

You mean you have the rear cover off?? So you cant see the timing indents on it? Maybe put it back on and then set the timing.

Im not sure how to do it without using the indications.

Checl out the 4age tech book. Heaps of great info there:

Hey, i pulled the cas out alligned the gear tooth to the marking on the hosing, and this is how the rotor inside sits compared to the contacts when the tooth and hosing is lined up, is this how it should be? Its an ae101 engine

Its really hard to see in that pic, but it looks right. Aslong as the two marks are lined up it should be right.

I'll go take a picture of mine when its on TDC at 7 degrees.

You can also bridge them at the ECU. Not sure which ones though. A quick search around and you should find it.
