it will be square after sitting in there for many years, they are actually meant to be round.

Find witzl's guide on rebuidling these things, there are a few oring sizes in there that are the closest fits.

With the cost of orings these days, I would take the list of sizes to the nearest bearing shop, and ask for 2 of each (you do have a second one to think about remember)

The orings are about 10c each.

Isnt it great being only 5 minutes from a good auto store, After looking thru 3 different boxes of 0 rings we found a green one that fits perfectly. free too.thats why I always try and use these guys. I have reinstalled the tensioner now and no leaks and a lot less chain noise. lucky I had a spare circlip as the original sprung off somewhere to be found in about 3 years time and wonder where it came from.
i now have a little more enthusiasm and will see how this goes.
The original head will be ready on thursday so if I am still not happy with how it runs I will do a head swap and possibly the chains.

Just thought I would thow up a picture of my throttle setup. Its a xt132 cable, shortened by about 250mm and I used a modified bracket from a yn57 hilux import motor that I bought years ago for my son. I modified the accelerator pedal to accept the cable by taking off the ball assembly That leaves a hole but this will need to be enlarged to accept the locking system of the cable , cutting a slot for the cable to pass thru and locking it in using the original system. The arm only needed to be bent a small amount to line up with the hole in the firewall and then just twist the very top section to accept the cable at right angles. The existing plastic pedal is retained.
By drilling a 1/8th hole on a diagonal thru a ball joint connector, the type useed on the linkage system the cable was threaded thru then that was secured .
The pull is very even and smooth and allows for full adjustment of the cable
seems like an easy system for the twin carbs on 18rgs
The cable cost $15 from the wreckers and about 1 hour of modding and fitting
    Cheers Dave

It came with the motor, just a standard genuine part. there is some for sale on ebay from time to time, they are from thailand I think and are aftermarket jobies. I have a set of proper filters for it as well but as it is not a daily driver I am not too concerned about dust injestion.

I would be worried about dust injestion... even the smallest amount can lead to scored bores and then oil leaking through the rings. Such a small thing can cause a huge amount of damage... just get some wet sock filters and you will be laughing.

Interesting, I've never seen one with a breaker link on it.

When your getting a new chain, check that it had tube rollers and not split rollers on it. It's just a little more peace on mind. Occcasionally split rollers can deform and come off their pins.
Generally, Japanese chains have tube rollers and Nason chains have split rollers, have a close look. If there's a seam on the rollers, take it back.

The new chain I have has no braker link, for now the chain seems quite SSSSHHHHH!
I have a set of proper filters that bolt on so if I am going to do a lot of driving I will fit them. After all its only 8 bolts and 10 minutes. Has anyony seen any replacement elements for the square filters, they are about 25mm thick but over here in the west they all think we are made of money.

Unifilter do a replacement element for them.

Also, you can buy socks that go over your ram tubes, no need to remove the tubes, just a couple of zippy ties and your away!! Cut the ties and your ready for a show/dyno challenge (if theres a dyno in aus that can handle the might of the RG that is )

    hey guys,

ive been having a lazy saturday morning surfing the web. I think you guys should take particular interest in classic-celica web site in america at the moment. There is a lot of good stuff on there, like genuine timing chain tensioners/slippers and with the way the aussie dollar is at the moment id be stocking up if i were you.

also, there was a fully original efi 18rgeu with all throttle position, efi thermostat sensors and etc and he was separating!

This is slightly off topic but links with the above post
I have been on that site for many years, the only thing I want I cant have. Have you seen the ad for RA25 tail lights he has quite a few sets? not the latest but there was one further down. He wont sell but will swap for parts, unfortunately there not the parts I have. I just want the centre panel for a RA25 as I have the rest. I have sold a lot of parts to these people over time and bought probably more.
I bought a chrome 18rg timing cover, rocker cover and water pump from guys on this site as well
I will flash up a pic for eye candy

Dunno about the $580 plus freight from germany price tag... but an R134a air con pump for an 18RG is always a nice thought, especially when its a brand spanker!!

    New Aircon Pump Link

It also infers that the 2xR, 4A and 5M pumps also fit... so could be interesting to see if this is true... because 4A pumps are a lot newer than 18R items same with the mid 90's 22R pumps
