Okay, the 18R-G had an anti-diesling solenoid with the Solex. And, as YelloRolla says, get the genuine Toyota filter. It won't let your engine grumble at first start up, and it's only a couple of bucks more than the non-genuine article. If you're serious about looking after your engine, the genuine Toyota oil filter is the ducks nuts.

I bet ( or should I say I hope) Sillius Chickus has a genuine filter on her engine?

Hehe nah not that bad... he did kick his toe on my unfinished coilovers this morning tho... and when we had guests over last night, he dragged them all into the room to show them his new bonnet vents also hiding under the bed... LOL... its quite funny though..

And yes I have a genuine toyota filter and it has removed my low oil pressure on idle problems..... Dont worry im working on RAd28, trying to make him use them too

RE the Aircon Bracket, It should not bee too hard to manufacture one if you can get some pictures from River of his.
If you want to put a rotary compressor in instead, I have a spare mounting bracket that I can either look at getting made in steel or possibly be tempted to sell, And I know that they are rarer than rocking horse poo.
I have the old twin piston comp in at the moment on my 18rc but the 18rgeu I have bought has a rotary compressor allready and they are much more efficient and it is just a matter of a couple of new hoses and re-routing others.

QUoted for Truth times eleventy billion.

I'm using a Ryco filter at the moment, because it was a saturday arvo when i last had to change my oil and no Toyota was open.
Now i have some nasty oil pressure buildup delays that were never there before with the genuine Toyota filter.

    Hi,

Then get the sport filter (I think that's what it's called) from Toyota. It's the same quality but not as tall.

I'm pretty sure i ended up using a 3SGTE filter. I was running a sandwich plate for the oil cooler takeoff so space was even tighter and the 3S filter was small enough to fit.

Yep I'm using a 2JZ filter on my 18R-G. With EFI the stock 18R-G filter won't fit at all, it fouls the plenum.

Here's a photo with the part number clearly visible (it's the one on the right). This same filter is used on lots of Toyotas so your local dealer is guaranteed to have one in stock.

I got a 15601-33021 filter from an 18RG nut who works at my local toyota a while back.
I think he said it was the same as a 4AGE, but can't remember for sure.

Does anyone have a photo of the underside of one of these anti-reversal ones?
I just want to see if they look any different.

Dieseling can sometimes be attributed to cam timing.
The 18RG anti-dieseling valve was the external "big ugly valve" that screws into the tappet cover on the drivers side.

Mine has this problem but the z 68 from the corolla fits and works perfectly.
Have never had a problem using a ryco filter on any of my too many cars, they (under parent name of GUD) make most of the OEM ones anyway. As for other el cheapo brands I can throw them further than I can trust them.

Hooray from the 1g-28 club... it's funny that you went from an 18RG to a 1G... i was thinking the other day, that if i had an 18RG in my other one, i would never have done the 1G... the RG is plenty of fun, but the 1G was made SOOo much more sense coming from a worn out RC...

i replaced the o-ring in my chain tensioner yesterday, however the center most (hollow) shaft didn't have an o-ring groove in the middle like the ones in the "rebuild your chain tensioner" thread. all it had was a small (and i mean barely noticable) groove under the shoulder around the open end. on the body of the tensioner where this shaft sits, there was an o-ring (looking) groove, which is where we installed the new o-ring (and where the old one came from).

now my problem is that after we primed, installed and pre-tensioned it, it made more noise then before re-building it... however the start up chain rattle didn't last as long, nor was it as severe. but on idle, it had a rattle which it didn't have previously, so we backed the tension off a whisker, and the idle rattle wasn't as bad, but the start up and decel rattle was worse, so we backed it off more, and idle rattle died completely, but the start up and decel rattle were pretty bad... what can i do? is there something small we've missed out on? or are my guides/slippers totally screwed?

    cheers
