Hi guys...

Anyone know where I can buy a gasket for the front timing cover for the RG? We've checked SWM, but they're not listed... Haven't checked the local auto shop yet though, but if SWM don't have it, I don't like my chances...

Which gasket do you mean, if it is the front alloy housing to block gasket repco can supply from ACL. If it is the steel cover on the front of the head, Repco again can supply gasket paper to make it.

It's the large alloy cover that goes over the timing chains. Repco can get the gasket ready to go? or the gasket material? I'll call tomorrow.

That gasket is in the full gasket set kit that SWM do. I guess they will tell you if they can do it separately.




And just to add some extra info, some pics of the gaskets in the full gasket kit. (I may not have taken pics of all the gaskets in the kit).

Gerrard, it is the same as an 18R-C item. The R-G timing cover varies after that point including the mounting to the head. Try your local auto store in the R-C catalogue.

I've been doing some hunting for some cams for my 2.2L 18RG and am struggling a bit with what is on offer. So far Wade are the only successfull hit I've had however they are offering 286IN, 286EX (Adv duration). I was thinking something more along the lines of 300IN, and 286-300EX. Where have others had there cams ground/purchased from? I also tried Crow and Crane cams both must only produce new cams as they flat out said no as they can't get blanks.

I'm going to try and contact camtech in NSW tonight to see what profiles they can offer is there anyone else I may have missed out?

Ivan Tighe did my cams he has plenty of different options just tell him what you want. My last set was a 2tg rally spec cam. 304 304 i think. Had no problem with them they were in my car for about 15 yrs.

Got word back about shipping on this, $105. Brings it to US$604 shipped, which when you do a conversion with www.xe.com, it comes out to AU$647. I reckon that isn't a bad price for a kameari 4.4kg CrMo flywheel. What are the thoughts of the rest of you??

I paid for my kameari a few days ago. $590us posted. From kameari USA... Had to pay 'direct wire' so I'll let you know if it actually arrives when and if it does.

An impossible decision, so much depends what you want from your car - Will the equation M = 1 + (Gr/R)² spin round and round in your head at 6000rpm if you don't get it! - I found this one a good read http://www.pumaracing.co.uk/FLYWHEEL.htm I think we'd be removing something like 9kg at a guess, equivellant to almost 400kg of chasis weight in 1st gear... Not to mention the performance effects are exagerated in small revvy powerful engines over big low rev'ers.

Yup, most out there have no idea of the forces involved and the gains to be had

$600+ is a tad steep but you get straight bolt-on peace of mind. Should be able to get something similar fabricated locally for much cheaper but some effort in finding the right fabricator.
