    Hi,

yeah, sorry, gotcha now. I was pretty sure that the engine mounts could only go on one way aswell.

As for the flywheel bolts - i've never used loctite on them and i've never pulled one apart that had loctite on them either.

Depends what kind of performance you are after, and how much faith you have. Me, I'm an athiest with an 18R-GTE, so I used loctite

    This thread needs some love.

My rather sizable pistons rocked up today. No pictures, i left them at work by accident.

To take away the love you have just given, I have a suspected BHG

    Symptoms:
Excessive blowby - could also have been caused by running in oil getting to the end of its life, but I have doubts...
    1 to 4 compression is 160 - 90 - 90 - 145 so I suspect blown between 2 and 3 (this measurement was taken cold)
Rough idle and hard to start hot or cold - I am still programming the ECU, but I got the idle bearable, then it got worse without changing program

Now I haven't overheated the engine, so cooking it is very unlikely. Overboosting is quite probably the cause, as the stopper on the wastegate actuator (two port item factory from a Gen 2 3S-GTE) blew off at some point. Due to the engine's happy revving nature, and the boost guage rolling around in the centre console, I have a feeling it was a day or so between when it started over boosting and when I noticed I think it was getting well beyond 10psi.

So tomorrow, I will check the head bolt tensions, and if they come up trumps, then I will start the arduous and much unliked task of taking off the head and checking the gasket

If anyone wants to point me in the direction of a multi-layer metal head gasket and some ARP head studs, that would work well... I'll start trawling through the lengthy 18R-G, 18R-GTE and Classic Celica threads, as well as the Classic Celica Index though in search of said info.

Oh, and one last thing. There is no inter-mixing between water and oil.
    Cheers, Owen

    Bummer

The stock HG is pretty good. Used to take 20+ psi on my motor no worries. The head bolts are another matter though and would stretch on anything over 18psi eventually (i had a low 7.5:1 comp) so i'd say theres your problem.

Last i checked ARP don't do a bolt in kit but the maching to get something of suitable length to fit would be pretty straight forward. Dunno of a MHG either but if there's one out there then a good option for sure.

    Hi,

Ohh, I like that!!! Is that going to be a turbo'd 2.4 18R-G?

Oman, send YellaRolla.. (or is it YelloRolla?) a PM and aks him as he knows of metal gaskets and other shit, as he's done a few 18R-G builds for hi power turbo.

You'll notice that the Kameari ones suit 92mm bores (i.e. 2.2L motors)

I'd be interested in ARP headstuds also.

    Not initially River.

It's an EFI head but running carbies so if i do end up with a turbo setup it'll be old skool blow thru with the solex's modded to suit

Owen, Cometic has copper HG's for under $100 US, in varying thicknesses. Just tell them it's an 18RC. I can assist with shipping if they don't want to ship over the pond.

ARP's are like $1200 a set (mains and heads), but for a GB of 5 sets, it's $414 per set. If you do a GB, count me in for a set and another guy on 1GC will be in as well.

For a single set, Paeco is the way to go. They have a great name in motorsports and the quality is at least as good as ARP:

This thread I wrote may be useful as well (need to be a 1GC member to view)

And rumor has it that 22R head studs work, but need to be cut down.
