yeah its not in my budget at the moment, im just starting the conversion and need a cat to get it on the road and legal, the magnaflow cat is only $195 which seems a bit more affordable at the moment. unless someone has a spare 3 inch on to get me going. i have a complete exhaust but some dope has knocked the centre out of it.

metal cats can only be a good thing - most ceramics i have found just fall to pieces on the harsh roads we have in australia.

that one on the ebay site looks quite restrictive to me compared to the 'metalcat' branded one I installed, cant remember the maker.

How did the Magnaflow go vs the MetalCat branded units in that Zoom article?

I've got some sort of unknown highflow cat at the moment, runs ok so I might keep it for now.

well I hate to be blunt but that magnaflow pic makes it looks like a peice of crap compared to a 'metalcat', metalcat use a spiral wound thin stainless layer instead of a honeycomb.

Maybe I am making a mistake by looking at the pic but either way I dont trust it

This is off the sureflo website. might help.

"Test Results - As measured by Rams Head Service – Windsor @ 28” of water.

    Measurements: -
    # 5” cat with 3” ends - 706cfm
    # 5” cat with 3.5” ends - 885cfm
    # 5” cat with 4” ends - 1015cfm

We tested the “Magic Cat” and “Metal Cat” using their own 3” fittings welded to each end and compared the flow with our Ballistic Cat with 3” pipework welded to the ends and here are the results:
    # Magic Cat 4” body with 3” ends - 546.6cfm
    # Metal Cat 4” body with 3” ends - 629.6cfm
    # Ballistic Cat 5” body with 3” ends - 706.2cfm

There are some rubbery figures going around. Magic advertise the flow of their 4” cat as 750cfm and their new 5” cat as 890cfm. These tests are obviously done with no ends on the catalytic converter. So if you compare the 5” cat from Magic @ 890cfm against our 5” Cat with 4” ends @ 1015cfm it shows ours flows 125cfm or 14% extra. This is extra performance."

well i would still like to see the zoom test. the only thing with going for the magic cat or metal cat is i fear it will definately see the 1jz ecu hitting boost cut all the time.
