    Wink WA Engine conversions

    Be interested if this is typical of the experience of others in WA..

    I was over in Bunbury today and went to the DPI to find out the rules with engine swaps.

    I told the bird I was considering a 21R --> RA40 conversion, an increase of 200cc.

    No drama she said, just fill in the form for a change of engine details. No inspection needed.

    If I was changing the fuel type or number of cylinders or a drastic increase in cc, they'd want an inspection for that...

    Taking that to the nth degree, I guess a 4AGZ 4 cyl conversion would be OK, but not a 1GG 6 cyl *without an inspection*.

    Well at Bubury at least...

    so i guess my 1J conversion wouldn't need to be looked at if it wasnt for the manual conversion?

    I think the new NCOP is coming into force now which basically states that you are allowed up to a 20% increase in power and/or engine weight before you need an engineers certificate. Basically I think they are getting a lot stricter and policing it a lot more. From my experiences you seem to get a different answer depending on who you speak to but for piece of mind I would want something in writing so in the event of an accident I want be shafted with insurance. I suspect if you ask for it in writing they will go by the book based on the NCOP.

    The BEST thing to do in WA, is to fill in the mod form, and get it back in writing.

    Ignore what other people say, you NEED to do everything that the DPI requests in their reply.

    this is true, ive rang them about my conversion and the only reason they need to inspect it is because its auto>manual
