    Default installing new oil pump.

hey guys, just got my new oil pump for the 1ggte from toyota.
yay, so brand new they had to make it in japan for me

anyways, it has timing marks, one on the ring, and one on the lumpy bit with the pump.
now, when this is all in the housing they meet up everynow and then
should these be aligned at TDC when installed or does it really not matter?
    cheers, andrew

adding in, every 5 turns of the shaft the dots line up...

nah the TDC doesnt matter. As long as you align the dots when you put the gears in for the first time youll be sweet!

and remember to fill it with oil before cranking the engine

also crank the enigne with no plugs in there just to get it spining around abd move the oil around before ther is any real load on the bearings.

thew engine will freespin eaisly withouth compression and allow the oil to move and build pressure.

sorry to be a pain, but why do the dots need to align? but not at any specific point?
and also, when you fill it with oil, wont it all pour out when you bolt it on?
and the bearings have experienced so much no oil pressure i dont think i few more seconds is going to hurt.
the old pump did not use to provide pressure if you started it up with the nose pointing up a slope. had to get it flat, then REV it to get oil pressure....poor bearings

Its to align the mesh of the two gears for their rotation. It doesnt have any effect on the crankshaft timing only the timing of the gears themselves.

I not a big fan of priming the oil pump before instalation. It is better to do it however BUT like you said most of it will drain out when installing it .....not to mention you can get oil on the gasket surface , which i dont like + it can be quite messy.

Some people prime pups with grease also.

You will be ok by just giving the pump a light squirt of oil to prime it and leaving the plugs out. Then crank the engine over till you have oil pressure

This way there is NO load on the engine whilst oil pressure is building up.

with priming the enigne ive alwasy put a bit of oil in ther and put a glob of assembly lube in the pickup and it helps keep it in there.

what i might do is coat the surfaces with assembly lube so it doesnt get upset when i first start spinning it before pressure.
    good idea?
and if so, obviously id do the knobbly bit, and the inside of the ring where the nobbly bit goes, should i do the outside of the ring where it goes into the housing? im assuming this get oil, so im assuming i should lube it?

Yes, lube ALL moving surfaces of the pump!!!

The marks are just to keep the drive & driven rotor/gear facing the same way, and are not for any other alignment/timing. I think you'll see that they aren't symmetrical and have a radius on their inside edge.
