Yep, similar if not the same as the one on the sump of my RT112. The warning light is in the roof console.
Ok so I was board and I had my head under the front end and noticed this object mounted in the sump of the 18rg.

Hi,
I think it's the oil temp sensor. The oil pressure sensor is near the oil filter on the 18R-G, and the oil temp sensor is usually mounted low on the sump.

I've seen a few sumps with those sticking out of them.
Not from all 18RG sumps though, just some.

i've got two at home.... to me they just make an easy spot to put an oil drain fitting for a turbo![]()
...... butt scratcher?!
Shouldn't the oil drain come into the crank case above the normal oil level, to ease out flow and keep temperates down from blocking up the out pipe?
I am eyeing off a hole that sits between my engine mount bolt holes. It'll squirt onto a journal cap rather then onto a rotating part of the block assembly.
Plus it already has thread and stuff in it so it should be a nice strong position and take any vibration that is transmitted.

Does your RA25 have an oil temp gauge or light somewhere?Originally Posted by river
This sensor looks exactly like the oil level sensor on my car and it has the oil level light in the roof console. I know it works too - I drained the oil and turned the ignition on to check.![]()

Hi,
No, my roof console shows brake light failure, washer level, and low fuel.
The oil pressure comes off the side of the block next to the oil filter. I have an oil temp gauge now fitted in the car, but it's not connected to the engine yet.
The oil temp gauge was used in the 2T-G GT/GTV Celica and this sensor came off the side of the block.
The 18R-G doesn't have the extra sensor hole in the block so they made some sumps with the sensor on it - same as pictured at the top of this thread. I think Norbie had one also, and it was for oil temp. Maybe, in your car, it's used for oil level instead of oil temp?
I'm getting one of those oil-ring thingos that go between the oil filter and engine, where it has a screw in hole to put an oil temp sensor (which I have already).

Yes that the one. I looked up my parts manual today and it's only listed as a oil sensor wish it's driscription was a little more pacific.
Cheers
