i use 10w-30 fuchs in my gze takes about 3.5ltrs i think possibly a bit more just check the dipstick as your filling cant get it too wrong as for the gearbox get a funnel and a plastic tube then fill it till it pours out the filler hole all too easy i think its about 3 and a bit litres

I use BelRay 10w/40 in my GZE, works a charm, still clean when I change it at 10000km. About 3.7ltr with a filter.

everyone goes awfully thin oil in the 4agze's i am using a 20W-50 for summer and a 15W40 for winter, is this ok, or should i go thinner all round, it just i have some bad experience once using a 10W oil in an old engine of this vintage

the W number is only when cold... (Winter),
a cold 10 weight oil is probably thicker than a hot 50 weight oil...
for zample, 5W50 mobil 1 seems to be pretty similar viscosity all the way thru temp range..

40 or 50 weight oil should be fine unless the motor is getting too hot.... 30 is pretty thin... but each to their own

basically, you pick your hot number (with no W) based on the engine and what it is like at temp... 50 weight is always a good starting point.. some ppl even go 60 for higher stressed motors, since although it is relatively thicker than 50 weight.. if it overheats the oil, the 60 is still going to be ok, but the 50 could get too thin and break down.... anyways, depends on your cooling system.

for the cold rating, W, it is based on temperature of the environment... australia it doesn't really matter because the winters are not harsh at all..
here (in sapporo) ppl use 10W-40 or 15W-50 all year round.. even down to -20 deg.. so changing it during winter is probably not necessary for you unless you have probalems with oil pressure build up when cranking and starting.... go with the heaviest W rating that does not affect initial oil pressure build up perhaps...

I used to run Penrite HP15 as engine oil, 3.7L there, and Castrol Syntrax 85W90 as gearbox oil. Takes under 4L, but only marginally. Around 3.6-3.7L is about right.
