    Default 1g-gte Clutch Variations

Hi, I've got my Gen3 1g-gte just about ready to bolt up to the gearbox, only thing stopping me is finding a good quality clutch. Now I've gotten a few prices and BNT (I'm in NZ if anyone hasn't realised) have quoted $750+GST for a HD kit.
Toyota Genuine Replacement $550 all up on special mates rates.
A friend has found a 1g-gte HD clutch for $260 but is listed as early 1g-gte.
My question is are the 2 interchangeable?
The later is a larger diameter, but for the price I'm definately keen to get the last Option,
    If it will fit.

Can any one shed some light on this for me?
Or help me find a clutch

Like the 1G-GZE, the Gen 3 GTE is a larger diameter than the Gen 1 or Gen 2. You will be sacrificing clamping force using the smaller diameter clutch.

I got an EXEDY Sports Tuff clutch kit for my Gen 3 1G-GZE.

    Here's the info:

    CLUTCH
    Bellhousing – 1G
    Clutch Fork – 1G
    Flywheel - 1G (240mm contact face - Gen. 3 only)

    Clutch Kit
    1.EXEDY TYK-6878 Standard 236mm x 29.8 Spline OD x 21 Teeth
    Includes
    Cover Assembly TYC574,
    Clutch Disc TYD113U and
    Release Bearing BRG2217
2.EXEDY SPORTS TUFF TYK-6878HD Heavy Duty
    3.Spigot Bearing 6001

Kit was just on $200 Aus

    Hope this helps you out.

    Cheers,

    Peter

Here's some pics of my flywheel and clutch.
As you can see the clutch is in a bit of a state and needs replacing

So you have 236mm clutch and 298mm flywheel so the kit I have listed should work just fine for you.

    Cheers,

I've always found the easiest thing to do is to rock up at a clutch place with the factory clutch and flywheel, tell them how you drive and get them to make something up for you. I've got the Gen2 clutch, and my car has been punished multiple times over the 35000km it's been on the road with it, and nary a bit of slip.

I would also suggest that, depending on the type of clutch (material) and pressure plate used, clamping force might not be such an issue for the Gen 2 size.
