Default 3tgte ~ High mount or low mount turbo *Pics Added of high mount built*

Alright, the time has come, mainly due to a small exhaust leak and on closer inspection cracked mainfold, to change/replace the standard 3tgte exhaust mainfold. I'm still in two minds as wheather to high mount or low mount the turbo. Looking for peoples experenice in what they're used. I will be making the mainfold myself (as I do with most things). Also what internal dia steam pipe will best suit. I hope/know Yellorolla will comment, but also looking for others.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

    hey super neil!

i reckon alot of it is personel preference.

high mount - look cool/rice, better clearance for turbo, straighter shot for airfilter, heat close to bonnet paint.

low mount - stealth, easier dump pipe, perhaps less bends in manifold- easier to make?

any way, that t51 will probly have to be highmounted to fit hehe

disclaimer - i know nothin about anything, all advice should be immediately dissreguarded before it permanently makes you less intelligent.

    cheers

low mount helps get the heat from the turbo out of the engine bay because of the air coming under the car.

Hey super Stew, that sound better than mine
I think the difference to make/bends will be stuff all. I'm leaning towards high mount as I can then run heater, a/c lines and wiring along the chasie rail giving a bit better clearance and every thing will be getting wrapped and shielded.

I was thinking where the standard carbie feed comes into the engine bay I could use with some ducting on it to push some of the heat down/back towards the fire wall. I guess this could be used in high or low configuration.

Ok, I decided to high mount turbo.
I used mid steel steam pipe, and even though most welds were good I decided to flap disc them smooth (the whole maifold actually). The internal welding I have not flap disc yet that's tomorrows job and the turbo plate is not getting welded on until after that is done.
After I ran it on the car for a week or so I'm sending it off the get cermaic coated by Procoat Ceramic Coating - Unit 1 / 1 Clare Mace Cres, Berkeley Vale NSW 2261 02 43889946 or 0407895044. Real nice guy to talk with and also sponsors Shane 1JZ 747's Cressida.

Good one Neil - that's about how I'd have done the pipe layout. Don't forget to brace the turbo/manifold to the flange plate and to the engine mount.
    YelloRolla's KE20 1/4mi = 11.32 @ 119mph @ 22psi on slicks
    12.44 @ 113 mph on 165 wide street tyres
210rwkw - not bad for a smelly 3TGTE running pump fuel.

Wasn't to sure about the bracing. With the current turbo I have, in the standard position, the bottom braket was remover years ago. If I just brace the turbo flange back to the head flange do you think that may be enough or should I really do both.

just put in 2 braces from the turbo flange to the no 2 n 3 runners, that should do it nicely, unless your running somethin crazy like a t88

    lol

This one is not finished yet, but it is a simple manifold to build (I'm not looking for the extra few hp i can get if i build i better manifold).
    I will use a Mitsu TD04 15T from a Saab 95 Aero.
