Wilbo, is it possible to make a circuit or something that will increase the dwell from 2.2ms to ap 5ms that can be wired into the IGt signal wires from the Factory 1jz ECU?Originally Posted by wilbo666
7MGTE igniter has to do some cleverness in it compared to the 1JZ. Based on the status of 2 wires it works out which of the three coil packs to fire. So you're looking at coil selection hardware as well as 3 igniters.

The main issue you are going to have is that you are trying to achieve something that is non causal
I.e. you want to lengthen the dwell, but still have the spark trigger at the same time... to do that you need to know when the start of the factory dwell was, before it happened
I suggest you start another thread

Not sure how this project is going wilbo, but if you're still looking at adaptronic management you will have to change igniters. Seems some of the extra circuitry in the JZ igniter is for current limiting and if you run waste spark (ie, fire 2 channels at once from a common input) the igniter becomes quite flakey and the engine runs poorly.
I had this problem with tims 1JZ and changed to 2 EMS 3-channel igniters instead.
Better still run 6 late model coil/igniters on plug (1NZ echo, 1ZZ corolla etc) and get rid of the igniter module altogether. I've had these support over 600hp on 2Js recently. Great value and very neat!
Interesting info Ants,
My development on that engine never got to the Adaptronic stage (I had a flaky stock engine ECU that was pretty hard to diagnose, so was going to go aftermarket, instead I got another stock ECU and twas all good...).
It would be sweet if you would start another thread showing some pics of the 1NZ / 1ZZ COP with inbuilt ijniters on 2jz(I'd like to look into that in the not too distant future!
.
