    Default HKS EVC III problems

Ive got a HKS boost controller with the digital display.

Should the display read the engines vacuum and boost when the car is running? If not what the hell are the negative numbers it is showing?

Also should the controller still work fine if the wastegate control function is bypassed?

What a stupid idea using 3rd gear flat out to redline 3 times in a row to set wastegate controller, hello 170k's each time, hello officer..... sorry i was just setting my illegal aftermaket boost controller, it wont happen again.....

I have by passed that function and cant seem to get any more than 12psi out of my 1J with twins, using this controller.

Anyone else used the same controller on a 1J with twins?

    Cheers
    Matty

this might be a thought matty to try, but have you got the right sensor setup selected for the vacuum?

sorry i dont really know much about the EVC, but like im just thinking about the only place ive ever seen negative numbers come up was before on my S-AFC when i selected the wrong type of pressure sensor display. i.e. It was looking for a MAP reading when there was none, thus giving a negative result and yet it was taking the Karmann reading fine.. a 1JZ being a MAP engine, maybe its something similar?

Are you running any form of fuel cut defenter? or aftermarket ecu? becuase the 1JZ and stock computer will start fuel cutting at around 14-15psi or ~1bar of boost.

Also if its anything like the SAFC it will show negative pressure when on vac and positive when on boost.

    Hehehehe,

I have had one of these for years. They are a great unit. First of all you have to clear all the previous settings. That is the previous persons, its written in the manual how to do it.

Forget about that 3rd gear run stuff, its meant to be good , but its only to set the offset and use the fuzzy logic. I used to just set the boost using the manual settings. Here is a link to the full user manual.

It reads vaccum and then boost. Vacuum is the negative

Yeah i run the same thing, but since i've got the FCD and big piping its been pretty unpredictable. I reset it and set the factory boost as .6 i think and now to get it to only run 14-15psi i have to set it for .7-.8 or something weird. Although i think it goes up to 14 then drops back down to 12~. Maybe theres some weird delay some where? I was just thinking of going into get it dyno set along with the FCD. I thought the FCD might also be F'n with it.

    yeah - is vaccum

hey yeah it should be reading in -mmhg thats just another way of writing vacume... and once you hit boost it will cahnge from mmhg to kgm... and dude your tuning it wrong you dont have to redline it wat u do is put it into third at hell low reaves and then flatten it youll be lucky to hit 100.... and yes you need to hook it up to wastegate...

yeah i assumed it was meant to be the vacuum/boost readout, but it never changes!!! So obviously something is not working. Whether the car is running or not it just reads -530 or something round there. Might try wiping all settings and starting again. VERY FRUSTRATING!!

Soarer TT yeah mate i know its meant to be connected to the wastegate

    yeah its not the filters.

the digital reading doesnt move at all, so im assuming there is something wrong with the whole unit.
If that isnt even reading the right vacuum or boost i assume it isnt going to work.

Any ideas why that might not be working?
Ive reset the unit a few times and re programmed and still nothing.
And ive checked and triple checked all vac lines.

Should it read 0 when ignition is on but engine not running?? cos it reads -580

Yes Matty, 0 when motor is off, -negative when motor is idling, positive when boosting, and when you rev it quickly in idle, the negative numbers should flick towards zero for a quick second.

Sounds like the installer is tapped...

GRRR not the pressure sensor for the digital readout

I know which lines go to where.

Like the one that is for the digi readout is the smaller one, which connects to an uninterupted source on the plenum. Etc Etc.

I meant i knew which one is meant to go to wastegate.

Anyway looks like the unit is stuffed.
