I reckon I'd send it to Alliance, wouldn't cost much for them to fix it.
Hey all, got some rays rims that require a bit of repair , thing is , looks as easy as a few taps with a hammer... whats your opinions on this ding :
I reckon i could some how pop the tyre off and bang out the lip with a hammer ..
possible ?

Don't waste your time. That lip is much tougher than you think and you'll only end up distorting the wheel. Get it done professionally.![]()

^ agreed
you're better off getting the professionals to re roll it. i had a rim which had a slight hit like yours but the previous owner had a go at it and failed, and actually didnt do jack in terms of repair, and it actually looks worse aesthetically due to their failed attempt.
Mess it up and you'll break a piece out of the wheel. Sure, it only needs force/bashing to get it into shape, but it's just a matter of getting it in the RIGHT place! That takes appropriate tools/experience.
in that second picture, you can see the rough surface where it is bent?
it's work hardened and if you just try to hammer it back, you could tear the metal..
get a professional opinion first.

Dude, not a chance! You will be lucky to bend it with a hammer, if you do, you will be lucky to control how far you bend it! have it rolled out properly (if they can) it isn't that exy. If they can't do it, be thankful you bought 2 piece rims and replace the outers.

The glass is neither half empty nor half full, rather the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.
on that note, does anyone know where u can some halves? even some blank halves...
for that damage go see a pro, mine wasnt that bad and i took it to a local guy, 70 bucks to do the wheel, he had to do some welding and all, but for 70 bucks its well worth it, especially for Rays rims.
also you need to get it done properly so that a tyre can properly slip onto it.
What is autosalon? Sounds kinda homo.

Yeah I dont like you chances of moving that with a hammer.
I wouldn't take it to Alliance either. Take it to Leo Gommer in Queens Park.
cheers
on a sort of side note..
anyone know the rough cost of getting two new outers made up for 2 piece rims?
possibility of getting it done for under $500?
Elmo.
what about a metal press ?
If tyre was removed it should be possible to push it straight with a hydrolic press right ?
i think that if you tried that it would break it of, my rim that was damaged was nearly the same damage as yours, when the guy went to press it out, it snapped and he had to weld new piece to it.

surree... give it a go and post pictures back when you finishOriginally Posted by coFF33
if you had a bit of rolled strip alloy, bent it, and it had the same surface features of your bent rim, you would not expect to be able to bend it back without cracking or snapping off (perhaps not initially, but could happen later in service also..). a crack or split in this area will leak air. if it is cracked, but you can't see it, there is a possibility of the crack opening up in service, due to the force of the tyre on the rim.
ideally, you would just replace the outer... they are not designed to be fixable.. they are designed to be strong.. yours has taken a fairly decent hit, so it might be wise to retire it (not Re-Tire
)... or at least get a professional opinion if it is safe (and while there, you may as wel get them to fix it
