What about the beams 3s? that would go pretty well in the 22 me thinks!

Edit: Just read he wants 250rwkw, then maybe an N/A 3s wont do!

really, no engine has a weak block, but, if the tuner doesnt know what hes doing, any motor can grenade.

Tristan of WTFAuto here in WA has gone to hell and back with the 3S, and his results speak for themselves!! might be good doing a bit of research, with his work as a good starter, 400rwhp+ is nothing to laugh at!

Bullshit they don't have weak blocks.

Tristan has been working on a scheme where one of the middle bores is cut right out and metal put in to replace the water gap between cylinder 2 and 3 then having sleeves put back in. This is due to the weakness of the 3S block. He is also tending to use the 5S block to get around this same weakness.

My 3S cracked running 10psi of boost and making ~205rwkw. Once it was sleeved to increase the strength it drove perfectly on the same tune, of course. It now puts down ~290rwkw on 20psi of boost. Same tuner, the only real difference is the block has tougher bores.

If you really believe that the 3S has no block problems you obviously haven't had much to do with them. Even TTR had problems with cracking blocks using brand new blocks straight from Toyota.

You really can't get much more wrong than that, especially with the Gen 3 variant ! But it is a problem that can be fixed and should be kept in mind if/when rebuilding the engine.

The SR20's also have there weeknesses, specifically there valve train but again you can buy aftermarket lash caps to improve this. Putting an SR20 into a TA22 is kinda like butt sex in Jail. You can understand why it happens but its still not right. Either option would be a far better choice than a 1JZ-GTE swap tho.

ah, my bad, was unaware he was running sleeves.

still, doesnt sound like an expensive mod to fix a major flaw in the engine.

I don't like nissan much, but for what you're after a 230rwkw SR20 is going to be cheaper and very likely easier (and the sr20 is a good engine). The 1j is, of course, a superior engine, but for thsoe power goals the SR20 is a better choice.
3s... well, weaknesses as mentioned, and it's going to cost a bucketload more than an SR20 to get it up to spec.

    gaddamn, that aint much room!

but yeah, i wouldve thought it would've been less too

mind you, not enough room for a GTE, cooler, piping, turbo, decent exhaust etc. etc. all gonna be an extremely tight fit.

Have a look at the position of the strut towers compared to the engine. Around three quarters of the engine's mass is in front of the axle line! This is really very bad for a car which is expected to do more than go fast in a straight line (which I'm sure that would do quite well).

Yeah I dont think its built for track use. The original owner had the car looking and performing how should I put it "ARRGGGHHHHHH scary"... that was 10yrs ago couple of owners down the track and its been modified in so many wrong directions I think its bit of poo now, but still its something to make your eyes water!

Yeah, I remember when one of it's recent owners was selling it on Boostlosing, had it advertised as a 1G IIRC. Didnt he get owned!
