    Default O2 sensor problem

since ive been getting pretty poor fule econ. in my 6mge mz11, i decided to upgrade my O2 sensor to see if i can improve it a little.

i went to autobarn and got a ACA OX201F single wire O2 sensor for a 5ME.

new one is the smaller one.

now heres where the trubble starts, wired them up no worries and pluged it back into the car no worries...

went to turn the car over and nothing!!! i got accessories, no clicking, no trying to turn over... nothing.

checked the battery, its fine, tryed it with another battery and it does the same thing.

now i cant figure out whats gone wrong, anyone got an idea?

can you start a car without the O2 sensor?

methinks it is a problem entirely unrelated to the O2 sensor.
O2 sensor has nothing to do with starting the car.

did you take off the battery terminals when swaping the O2 sensor? broken a lead inside the insulation?

what else did you touch? cos you busted something

The one wire sensor relys on heat from the exhaust to get its reading, this should change its resistance reading along with the gases passed through the sensor. I'd try starting it with the sensor out of the manifold but connected, also check to see if you knocked off the starter solenide connection. You may have also blowna fuse if you didnt have the battery disconnected.

the O2 sensor changes it voltage with the oxygen content of the gas, btu requires a certain temperature to work... is not about resistance (since this is a zirconia sensor)

if the sensor is stoppign the car from starting, then your ECU is dead

well i didnt think that an O2 sensor could stop a car from starting, thats good news i guess. but i didnt disconect the battery when i changed it, i guess thats the first thing to check.

the starters on the other side of the car so i dont think ive touched that

so it might be down to the fuses, so what fuses would i be looking for that ive blown?

i refuse to belive its my ECU or more pray!!!

Sure you put it in P or N, and didn't leave it in gear... (!)

I wasnt exacly sure how a O2 sensor worked. Interesting they compare the oxgen count ouside the sensor to teh oxygen present in the exhaust gases. Apparently a coating of oil or similiar stuff can effect thier readings.

    thanks for the help!
