Have you checked the rubber gearbox mount? Sounds like it might be stuffed.
Hey, i have recently chucked a 1ggte in my mz10 and bolted it up to the factory w55..
basically i hear clunking noises when i back off in first, when i compression down shift, whenever i reverse.. sounds like something is hitting the trans tunnel..
Box is a W55, N/A clutch.. on its way out, clutch needs a bleed, flywheel needs machining, slave cylinder may need rebuild.. Could any of this cause the noises..
I know i should have changed the clutch when the motor/ box were out, but i needed a car for work and didn't have time/money to do so..
The box only makes noise, i cant feel it restricting the movement of the car at all.. Apart from the clutch slipping at anywhere above 12psi..
New clutch will be going in soon..before end of month
What could these noises be?
Cheers

ill have a look, but the noise sounds more mechanical..
on a side note are w55 and w58 boxes interchangeable...
If i have a bellhousing for a 1ggte off a w55 will it fit w58?

jks dude..
so w55 and w58 interchangeable.. Are the lengths the same.. I dont want to have to modify the drive shaft..

dude, it sounds like your getting the noise whenever the motor kicks back from being under torque.
maybe your exhaust is hitting something? or you've fucked your engine mounts up and the power steering/alternator/plenum/turbo is smashing against something?
Elmo.
actually now that you mention it, it could be the exhaust.. It rubs against where my feet sit and we actually had to give the floorpan some tough love with a hammer to make the zorst fit..
It could be that, but somehow it feels like gearbox to me.. Dunno.. will have to have a look..
I suppose that would explain why it does it more in first then any other gear, coz it drops more revs etc...

W55 and W58 are the same length.
W55, W56, W57, W58 & W59 are all identical from the out side and are the same physical size.
(yes, 56 and 59 exist, but probably not in Australia)
