Default 3S GTE Cam sensor pick up with Microtech ECU??

    Hi,
A while back I fitted the 24 tooth wheel and sensors from a 3SGTE into my 3T GTE so I can get rid of the stock dizzy and coils.
    I'm running a Microtech LTX8.
The 24 tooth wheel is fine, no probs there. I still haven't run this on my engine...

What I want to know is what signals the bottom teeth/tooth on the 3S GTE send out and what is needed for the LTX8?

The 24 tooth wheel has one pick up and the bottom has 2 pick up points and what appears to be one tooth. Not sure why the wheel is tapered the way it is at the base?
I'm guessing that G2 is one of the 2 base pickups and that this is not needed for the LTX8?

So if this is correct the bottom wheel of the 3S GTE sends out one 1 signal for every 2 revs of the crank?
Anyone know why the bottom part of the pick up wheel has the main tooth with an edge that tapers off?

    Hope this makes sense,

    Cheers,
    Simon

The bottom wheel signals TDC and BDC.
The tapered wheel is a little weird, I cant remember exactly why they did it. It changes the way the EMF or signal is formed and is probably just a way to differentiate it from the signals formed from the 24 tooth wheel.

Do you know why Microtech don't use G2? Which I assume is BDC?

I'm trying to understand this as Microtech tell me I should use a Mazda set up that is 24/2 teeth. Problem is I've already made a CAS from the 3S GTE and I'm hoping to generate the same signals as the Mazda unit.

    Cheers,

Sorry I dont know anything about the Microtech. I don't understand why it wouldn't work with the 3S CAS. I assume all it needs is crank position and cam angle(TDC)?

I'v used the G2 signal on a lt10s on my 3sgte with no problems.

So does your Microtech get the following signals from the CAS?

24 tooth for crank angle for each rev
1 signal per rev for TDC
1 signal per rev for BDC

On the 3SGTE dizzy, does the TDC and BDC signal come from the separate pick up points? And do you know why the pickup points have the taper leading up to it?

At 180 degrees from the TDC pick up point the profile of the leading edge changes, interested to know if this creates a signal or if its just the way it was machined...

    Cheers,
    Simon

On my Gen 2, 3sge I ran an 8 tooth wheel on the crankshaft pulley, and then used a modified dizzy from a gen 1 3sge. This had only the lowest sensor and gear remaining, with all of the teeth except for 1 filed off.

The single tooth in the dizzy just provided the sync signal for the start of the cycle, while the 8 teeth on the crankshaft provided the reference position.

This was with a Motec M48 and later M4 which could have used just a standard 3SGE dizzy, but I didn't have enough room to fit the full dizzy in a RWD, so I cut it down and went direct fire ignition.

I would think the Microtech could support a similar arrangement.

The crankshaft toothed wheels are available from most after market EFI places. Mine came from Motec and had to be adapted onto the crankshaft pulley and a mount made for a hall sensor to read it.

Very simple to set up and worked pretty reliably.
