Default Rear Damper for AE86, TA22, RA23/28/40/45 etc.

    What's out there? Opinions?

KYB GR2, p/n 343149 $46.75USD MSRP http://www.nolimitmotorsport.com/prod/343149 (same p/n as local 'Excel G' damper ie. same product rebranded)
Koni Yellow, p/n 80-2437Sport $more RRP, via Toperformance or other
    TRD 8-step adjustable damper, p/n ? Y25988 JPY http://www.greenline.jp/catalogue/bc...ory=suspension

Is Bilstein an option or are there budgetary constraints?

Out of my specific budget, yes. But don't hesitate to post any info you have, others may take something from reading this too.

just threw in a set of pug 505 shocks(until i get some adjustables in). excellent rebound, real cheap should be about~$120 a pair new (got em for 80 ) these are amazingly short stroke though, and even with the standard chopped springs the car feels a good 60% stiffer (havent driven it, just pushin up and down, and nearly all the sidewards movement has gone).

take a look at the greenline site for the kyb super special etc shocks (there are about 3 models, but cant find much info on them)
you can use KYB agx commo shocks (8 way adjustable ~$180each)

and a fair list is here, all these shocks will fit with minor mods (changing bushings etc), and the list just states how much shorter they'll be over stock. remember a general rule is the heavier the car the harder the valving. the pug 505 is about 1400kg, and the suspension is really really good in the car (the best 100 bucks you'll spend)

    Rear Shocks Dimensions:

    AE86
    Extended Length: 560mm
    Closed Length: 335mm

    AW11 S/C
    Body length: 345mm
    Outside Diameter: 43.5mm

    Peugeot 505
    Extended length: 420mm
    Extended minus Body: 270mm
    Twin Tube Rating (344004): 1900/600

Toyota Cressida/Mark II GX70 Station Wagon
Dimensions unknown but good for AE86 rear shock, sim to Peugeot above, maybe stiffer

    Hilux (front shock)
    Extended length: 420mm
KYB Heavy Duty Gas Rating (KG5437): 3100/1000

    Mazda RX-7 Gen 1
    Extended Length: 540mm
    Closed Length: 323mm

    Celica T/RA63
    Extended Length: 620mm
    Closed Length: 320mm

    '82 Camaro (16" wheels)
    Extended Length: 486mm
    Closed Length: 309mm

    Tokico HTS
    Extended Length: 455mm
    Closed Length: 307.5mm

    hope this helps.

If you are after "short stroke" the TRD ajustables are normal stroke length. Unless they are old stock that has the HTS insert.

Damper length at rest is approx 470mm. I dunno where this "I need 420mm extended length no more* nonsense comes from. I can get close to 550mm total length before the rear springs unseat. Looking for around 550 extended, 350 compressed. More travel on the bump stroke is ok.

    Glad i found this thread,

Exactly what model commodore rear shocks fit?

the argument for short stroke is just to stop your springs falling out, but as i found out recently, you don't want, or need them to be hugely shorter than standard.

my argument for short strokes it the fact that you can lower your car without reducing suspension travel.

if the ae86 shocks fit in tha TA22, then the 505 shocks will fit no worries. but be warned, tey are alot shorter than standard(ae86), probably not advisable for a car that aint dumped
those shocks on that list dont fit straight up, but they require a bit of 'massaging' to fit (maybe using stock bushes, cut bushes etc) it;s not rocket science, but be warned.

I know the Ford Focus(all but wagon) rear shocks Fit on RA6x's with the proper bushing change, and are a bit stiffer

Does this mean that AE86 rear shocks are interchangable with RA21s? I can't seem to find anything on RA21s, though I don't think there would be any difference in rear shocks from an RA23/TA22 ect. I'd really like to get some KONI Yellows for the back to match the KONI Yellows in the front.
