2JZGE Waterpump onto a 1JZGTE...who has done it?

I just have a couple of quick questions for those who have done the conversion, I am looking to do it on thursday and I need to know what parts to order, I was thinking that the pump and the pulley were the only things, but is the fanbelt the same?

any help here would be awesome..

2JZ-GE pump won't fit on a 1JZ-GTE. You need a 2JZ-GTE pump.

The parts required are the pump itself (note it's in two parts) and the pulley. Some say you need a different belt but I found the tensioner was able to take up the slack, there was only a small difference in my case.

you need they 2jz pump and the 2jz backing plate, i dont know if its name is a backing plate, but its bolts to the block and sticks out the left side where your themostat housing bolts to, the block holes for the this part on the 1j and the 2j are the same but the actual holes for the pump to bolt on are different, i found this the hard way, my toyota dealer new what parts i was looking for and they arent that expensive, where the top radiator hose goes from the motor unbolts and pulls out from the backing plate it has 2 rubber washers, so you need to reattach it to the new 2jz backing plate as well. When i did it i found that there were three different backing plates, one for the hydraulic pump, one for non hydraulic and one for thhe 2jz pump.

Hope that helps. Sorry if its confusing but im pretty sure without the backing plate the 2jz will not fit, other than that it is just thr pulley, i could be wrong and maybe i was given a 2j-ge pump.

its too late to get an interstate part in anyway, so if it dont fit then ill be waiting untill next week...

I ordered one from Castle Hill Toyota a couple of months ago, and it cost a lot less than that. It was here the next day. Stuck it on a 1JZ, never even thought about any issues with belts etc., all was just happy.

On the same sort of field, JZZ30's have a non hydro water pump. Is it the same as the 2JZ-GTE one?

Norbs, what makes the 2JZ-GE one not fit?

And who would like to take some pics of 2JZ-GE, 2JZ-GTE and 1JZ-GTE (hydro and normal) and make a tech doc? I'd help out where I could (i.e. send me pics and details and I will do it)

some JZZ30's had the hydro pump...I know becuase I wanted to buy a radiator out of a JZZ30 cut and it had the hydro fan i didnt end up buying the radiator becuase it was way way waaay to big to fit in the front of my car...

I think I still have my 2JZ-GE pump lying around somewhere too but I don't have pics of that. I can't remember the exact reason it wouldn't fit but from memory there were some major differences.

Norbie: I also have a 2jz-ge pump lying here as a result of mistaken identity.
The main pipe that connects to the engine (screw technical names at this point of my shift) is at a different angle to the GTE part, and will not fit.

$315 sounds ... expensive. my pump + pulley (pulley machined by GT's mate) cost me around $200.

well, the pulley from toyota would be a good deal more than the one I bought... plus I got trade price on the pump

I paid about $160 trade for my water pump, which came from Castle Hill Toyota IIRC. That was about 3 years ago but I find it hard to believe the price has doubled in that time!

$160 sounds very close to what I paid from there too...

As for the pulley, I had a JZX81, JZZ30, and JZA80 engine all kicking around, and I can't actually remember which pulley I used.... But one of them fitted.
