Default 20v blacktop vvt wiring + alt wiring

hey all am getting towards the better end of a 20V conversion in the 71 and am having some troubles with a lil bit of wiring. the computer is a microtech lt10s. its got 3 aux outputs. one for aux air valve, one for vvt and one for thermofan control.

now the vvt solenoid in the side of the head has 2 wires coming out of it. red and black. i assume +ve and -ve. are these solenoids just an on/off type thng or are they variable? the wiring diagram for the lt10 says that the outputs are neg triggered.
    so...
if above is correct does the black wire connect to the neg triggerwire from the microtech and the red wire to +12v ign?

    now for the alternator.
the alternator tht came out of the te71 has a plug with 2 wires and one stud to bolt the thicker wire onto. the one that came out of the ae111 has a 3 wire plug and post for larger wire.
whats the go with this? what purpose does this extra terminal serve and what do i do with it?

    also another smal question.
do you relly need an aux air valve??? i assume its just for idle up with aircon etc.im not running any of that. i was having some dramas with its wiring so i rang microtech and the guy said the 20v aux air valve isnt compatable with the lt10 an that id need to find one from something like a vl. he als said my 2tgeu one may work. is it poss to just leave it not connected?

cheers for any help with these things guys

i think you will probably want a relay to turn on the vvt the solenoid probably draws to much current for the microtechs output.

you don't need a aux idle valve the earlier microtechs didn't have them at all. if you don't have air con etc the only disavantage of not having idle control is that your idle may be a little low when cold and a little high when hot

I think there is a alternator wiring guide on here somewhere from memory the 3 wires are ignition, voltage sense from near the battery terminal and charge light your old alternator might have combined the voltage sense and ignition wires

agreed .... setup a relay to the vvt solenoid.

then have the ecu provide the earth to relay that will then activate the solenoid.

yup old mates has pretty much covered it, connecting the iscv isnt really that hard you've got your constant power (middle wire) rsc and vsc(?cant remember the pcb code for that) IMHO it will make a difference. depending on which alternator plug will depend on wiring i cant remember the setup with the round plug but the rectangular is (looking at face of plug with clip up) IGN, CHG, B+. your IGN goes to "on" chg goes to charge light (or through a resistor then ground) and b+ is self explanatory.

dont need relay for vvt done it many times with no probs

make sur eu have microtech book for yr model as they sometimes use certain aux for certain jobs preprogrammed in the unit

so if the instructions say aux 1 for w\fan then use if only for fan

then aux 2 might be for vvt then use it for vvt

cause whn u goot setting so adjust when they turn on then u will get the wrong htings to turn on

    sideshow
yeah i bought the microtech new so got the book. doesnt have anything written on the wirind diagram against the 3rd output wire. its got fan and aux air valve on the other two.
so how do you think to wire the valve? just run the output wire straight connected to pos on the vvt solenoid with neg going to ground?

would that output be strong enough to run the vvt decently. if its a bit iffy ill just go ahead and relay it. ive already got a relay n etc siting there.

cheers for all ur help guys

Measure resistance of the VVT coil, check what the max. current that the output on the microleb can sink, and you'll soon know if it's OK or not.
