Default JZX81 digital dash into MX83

As the title says, will it fit in a late model 1991-1993(digital fuel sender) unit. And is it just plug and play if I get the digital dash. And will everything work, as I read in old toymods forum that the dash might only be able to display my speed and no temp or fuel reading?
Anyone ever tried it before and what are the problems they ran into.
    Thanks in advance.

    It will physically fit.
Some dashes are electronic speedo's, some are cable speedo's, make sure you have the right one (or convert your cable to electronic)

1JZ tacho is not compatible with 7MGE if you still have that.
    Temp will work fine
Fuel level will not work without digital gauge sender

Rest is easy providing you have all the correct pinouts.
    Its just time.

Well I was looking for plug n play answer . But seems to be hassle as I will not be doing my conversion till june this year and try to make everything work with 7MGE. I want to do this conversion in stock 1991 model cressida GLX. if only techo will not work I can live with that.

Tacho will work with an adaptor.

If you get a nonturbo GX81 dash, then that tacho will work with a 7MGE, but you'll need an adaptor to make it work with a 1JZGTE.

Turbo GX81's will have the same tacho's as JZX81's

    Tacho adaptor.
I'm sure something in the MSD Tacho Adaptor range would cater for it.

If it is anything like going from analog to digital dash in the *A70 Supras it is not a plug and play affair, far from it as there nearly twice the wires running to the digi dash.

The easiest answer would be to check the plugs are the same for the rear and can physically fit. otherwise you need to do some wiring.

*Disclaimer* this is based on comparing *A70 dashes and never seeing the *X81/83 dashes in the flesh.

I think JasonP on Thermactor has done this conversion, best to ask him.

JasonP used a whole JZX81 dash loom when he did his conversion, so there was really no intricate wiring to do.

I'm sure it wasn't plug and play either, but it would be easier than doing it pin by pin.

I put a digital dash in my old chaser, the plugs are vastly different between the two. I did use the whole dash loom so it was plug'n'pray... I had to repin all the plugs from the car's rear harness to go into the kick-panel sockets from the dash loom etc.

You do need a digital fuel sender, I sourced one secondhand from Japan as toyota dont make them anymore and are out of stock in Japan, a shame as the sender would have only been about $140ish new from toyota. The digital sender has a blue-painted top plate. The analogue sender has the standard yellowish metal plated top.

Another way to get the guage to work is with a voltage divider circuit. By using the right resistor values and the 5V output from the digital cluster as your circuit's input reference, there is no heat buildup across the analogue sender in the tank.
