Long answer.
Have a search around, it's been discussed before, but the options from memory are:
Toyota genuine = expensive
Holden SC oil = probably the same and much cheaper
Vrey light engine oil (0W or 5W or so) = cheaper again and probably just as good.
Short answer.
Use whatever the hell you have available. It just lubes a couple of gears. I know many SCs that have run for years without oil being changed/checked.

EDIT - Too slow

I need a working 4AGE bottom end. Pref smallport GZE, but all others considered. Also complete motors.
Drift Volvo. Was fun. 2JZ next time.

this's been wat's bothering me for a while now... there's a lot of mixed reactions and opinions about what goes in there... what exactly is the toyota's oil for the SC12? it doesn't seem to make much difference what oil is used and makes the same whining regardless...
Research has shown child in front seat causes accidents, accident in back seat causes child
yeh its been a bit of a debate in the past. I just used "the next best thing"..... it was synthetic, and it worked. haven't had any worries...... yet?
EDIT: Actually i think i used castrol syntrax 75w-90... hmmmmm

smells like lanolin. I toppped mine up just the other day, as i saw it was half empty on the dipstick, with 5-40w mobil. Make sure you have a big syringe and some 4-5mm tube to get it down in there.
well if its suposed to be a THIN oil....what your using is basically THICK DIFF/BOX OIL....Originally Posted by Kebin
Ive used Toyota, Holden & just plain manual trans oil.
Makes no noticable difference to anything...
Hen, Too slow??? Nah, just takes a few seconds longer to type a good answer.

your statement is not wrong. However, The factory stuff is thin.
Correct yes the factory stuff is thin but not readily available at an acceptable price.
A quick search on the twincam forums shows all the oils mentioned in this thread are commonly used.
