There must be something going wrong there. Is the bush in the lower bracket still there?
hey all hopefully this is a quick one and others have experienced it, before i get flogged yes i did use search but the aw11 anonymous thread has become a monster.
my problem is thus... the bolt that keeps the alternator in place and retains tension on the belt keeps snapping off on me. this is twice in as many weeks. to repair i must remove the alternator extract or drill out the remainder of the bolt and then replace. the second time i did find a stronger bolt than what came off but apparently not enough as it snapped on me yesterday about 15km from home.![]()
if anyone has any ideas please let me know, my best idea so far would be to drill and tap the hole for a larger bolt (something REALLY strong ie flywheel bolt)
\thanks in advance

Strange things are afoot at the circle K
everything is there, after the first failure i swapped bolts from my 20v alternator all was nice and snug. even double checked the belt tension after a few days of driving and it was fine. seems to only happen when i really lay into it. i swapped in an even stronger bolt this morning (one from transmission->bell housing) grade 7, hopefully it doesnot happen again.

if the thread is still fine in the alt, use a high tensile bolt. i have in the past drilled the original hole in the alt and use a bolt-nut combo.
snapping bolts is usually because the mounting bolt is loose or the mount is flogged out.
