    Default Brake temps

I'm just wondering what temp brake calipers would get to?
I need to stick my calipers in a kiln to cure the high-temp paint, but I want to do it without removing the seals, pistons etc... so what is a good temp? 150? 200? 300?

    Tuff one !

I would say they would get up around 300 But im only taking a stab in the dark here!

Any reason for not pulling em apart ? It is very easy to do and you should be able to re-use all seals etc providing they are in good nick

    EDIT
DRAVEN I just did a google and found some info. They reckon brake caliper temps will get up as high as 500-600 deg on a track day

the only thing to be damaged will be the seals...

if they are a normal nitrile rubber, you can look up the temp limits for them around the place.

why not take the bits out?

Ive never cured my calipers in a kiln, but have simply road cured them, just handle them nicely when you reinstall them and then take it for a good braking test, about the same as you would to bed in the brakes. That cures the paint nicely.

Yeah takai thats what i did with the GTR calipers on my car and i have had no prob with the paint . I do clean them every now and again (i show my car every now and again) and the paint hasnt flaked or any thing like that.
Just make sure they are super c;ean and you use a good quality paint and youll be sweet!

my reason is they're homo-erotic red at the moment, and I want to paint them another colour. to do this, I need tp cure the paint that's on there, and I dont want to install the brakes, cure the paint, then uninstall the brakes

I don't want to take them apart because I'm lazy - I was just seeing if anything would die curing it in a kiln

just hit them with a heat gun and then let the brake temps finish them off. you can get cheap heat guns for $40 or so.

I think what Greg is trying to do is cure the paint before he puts them on the car, so he can rub it back a bit and paint them something else. The previous owner never let the calipers cure.

Heat gun will nicely cure the top layers so you can rub them back.

    Hi,

If you need to remove the current paint, just use an electric drill with a wire brush. It will remove it in no time. Also, it will nicely clean up the area so you can put on whatever homo-erotic coloured paint you desire.

    Hi,

I wouldn't think so. It's pretty tough alloy and you get a softish wire brush. Do the inside caliper first (as no one will see it) and try it.
