    Default 4age Wiring problem

Hi guys, I'm in the middle of putting an 86kw ae82 4age into my ae86 and have struck a prob with my wiring of the ecu. I need to connect the loom to the ecu. I know what wires go where in the ecu plugs though lookin at the loom end (where its been chopped) i see many wires of the same colour and gauge. How can i tell which are which so I can connect them to the proper pin?

Well I need to connect everything to the three plugs and so far have only looked at the end of the engine loom as I thought that would be the hardest to figure out which wires do what; as there all hidden in the harness and im not sure how to test them to find out.

Sounds like you're talking about a cut harness. Does your harness for the engine have the 3 connectors on it, or are there just bare wire ends?

edit: just saw that he mentioned "cut ends". If thats the case, you'll have to try and distinguish the three seperate parts of the harness that make up the three seperate plugs for the ECU. They should be split off into "tails" off of the main body of the harness. If that is what you have in front of you, then it shouldnt be too much work as each plug for the ECU only has one of each wire color(or colors).

mr2merv, your absolutly right. I have a cut harness with the three tails. The bit I find confusing is each tail has many more wires in it than the (10,18,14 pin) plugs they should go to. eg. the largest tail has approx 40 wires in it, with multiple ones the same colour.

Thanks for your help and sorry for the confusing explaination.

    P.S Pics still coming.

For the ecu side of things you can read them off the PCB(printed circuit board) inside the ecu.

But they are abbriviated so not simple. Either way if you dont have the patience. Get sideshow out there. Pay the man and you'll have everything working perfect. Just save your time and your dollars.

EDIT: just realised your in VIC. Sucks to be you.

The diagnosis manual has all the pinouts with a simplified ECU/engine wiring diagram including the pinouts and wiring colours, and the wiring manual has the detailed circuit diagrams.

basically you are going to have to trace everywire back to where it begins, which is gaurenteed to be messy and fun.....i recommend a late night, beer and a few wiring diagrams/pinouts, i say multiple diagrams because i used one and it turned out he "forgot" to put the iscv wires in that one so i chopped them without thinking twice and now have had to re connect the iscv using a different set of pinouts and it was a big fuck around so yeah use multiple sources

personally i would throw the loom away and chase up a good one
they are around 100 bucks if u find one

    much less hassles

then its about a day or 2 job to wire it up to yr corolla

i have a cut up ae82 loom if you want for 50 bucks

the engine to ecu side of it is still uncut

just the wires to fusebox and dash are cut
