    Default 3sgte head gasket worries

Iv'e recently rebuilt a 3sgte in my mr2 without skipping a single procedure in the process. I have only done 200km but since the rebuild a small amount of moisture collects under the oil filler cap during running but disapears quickly and sometimes apears again after cooling down. The cooling system surges and carries on after running also. Have I got a leaky headgasket even though compression is normal and there is no oil in the water or is it something trivial.
Secondly, when I installed the head gasket I followed toyota's head bolt torque instructions ie; 49nm then 90 degree turn. The after market instructions said to retorque the bolts after running, but I cant remember the retorque specs. Who is right? Should I back off the bolts and retourque even though they are a torque to yield type. I really do not feel like pulling the head off and replacing the gasket so quickly after rebuild especially in an mr2 as they are sods to work on.

it could be more sinister like a cracked head or something.

As for torque values, if your using ARP's then follow ARP's instructions. If you are using NEW toyota bolts, follow toyotas instructions.

It could just be a matter of the headgasket not being properly torqued.

When I thought I had a leaking head gasket on my fresh 3SGTE build it was actually a cracked block. It had the same kind of symptoms and didn't really overheat.

With a bit of luck yours is just condensation in the oil cap and a cooling system in need of being bled properly.
