looking around $120-$200 for a selector fork, i snapped 2 of mine![]()
that looks very similar to a w56 hilux fork
may work out cheaper
thats a few people i've heard of snapping them now.... methinks i might be a little gentle on my 1st-2nd changes![]()
...... butt scratcher?!
weird.. is there even wear on both of the faces where it touches the gear bit?
or is the busted side worn more (ie, thing was wonky and pushing on one side)
seems odd to only break one side off.. since the gear collar thing can't really twist much, and neither should the fork.....
how hard would it be to make up a stronger one?

Couldnt be that hard to make i wouldnt think.
I have had a bit of a billet fettish lately
Sorry guys but i dont have a CNC mill only the old manual type........ so mass producing will be a issue !

It has even wear on both sides and oposing sides.Originally Posted by oldcorollas

Would be my roughness that would of caused it.
I have fitted a w57 from a ra60 celica that i scored from a u pull it wrecker for $182, will be a little gentler with this one.
So this w58 will be my spare box.
There was a w55 at the same wrecker also, are these as strong as all w series boxes??
I've got a second hand one if you want to PM meOriginally Posted by 2jizzle

I made one after breaking 3 x them.Originally Posted by The Real Roadrunner

YelloRolla's KE20 1/4mi = 11.32 @ 119mph @ 22psi on slicks
12.44 @ 113 mph on 165 wide street tyres

I recently threw out a few of these.Surely there must be other people with smashed gearsets who have good selector forks?
BTW W5x behind a 2JZ in a drift car? Get used to breaking stuff.![]()

Seeing how you drive your car down the strip yellorolla, it's no surprise that you broke a few of these forks
Going overboard is necessity for you i think.

I find the things that assists the breakage (apart from my driving style), are 1) clutch clearance and 2) synchro take-up (?) time (read: driving style).
Nothing a PPG gearset won't fix though. I just can't justify the cost (nor do I have the money).

The shift rod it rides on should have a stop on each end, so the fork isn't bearing the load at the end of the shift lever's travel.
I don't have a clue why brass & alum. break rather then bend. When only one side breaks, it always the leading or trailing side?
