Default New Silicon Chip programmable ignition interceptor

Anyone know anything about this new kit?

    http://www.siliconchip.com.au/cms/A_108521/article.html

Looks like it will make use of the Jaycar handcontroller....

    Cheers,
    Julian.

    looks interesting

anyone have access to the article and can tell me how it works?

is like a stand alone ignition only ECU? or is it just an interceptor?

i've got my doubts about the versatility of this kit.... however it *may* yet prove to be useful.

The only problem is that the ignition curve would be 2-dimensional.
    ...... butt scratcher?!

Quote from start of Silicon Chip article

"In order to measure engine load, the Programmable Ignition can use a Sensym absolute pressure sensor. In fact, provision has been made to mount this sensor directly on the PC board, the sensor then being connected to the engine manifold via plastic tubing.

Alternatively, you can connect the ignition circuit to an existing manifold pressure sensor if present. This is commonly called a Manifold Absolute Pressure (or MAP) sensor and is found on many cars these days. You could also use a secondhand MAP sensor from an auto wrecker."

It knows the "load" so doesn't that then make it 3D?

I've got the magazine, took a look at it, and figured it might be useful to anyone who plays around with carbs...

Cool Re: New Silicon Chip programmable ignition interceptor

It's really stupid, just like their other two piggybacks.
For another $200usd, you can buy an SMT-6 that will beat the socks off of it, so why waste the time & money.

i've seen the article it works on a 3d ignition map, but i have a feeling it would be a lot of fiddling around,
also you might have to research some basic timing graphs or specs in order for it not to detonate like sh!t the first time you start it up

I've now got access to the article ($8.80 later), there is an option to run it with a knock sensor as well.
It can either run as a full stand alone ignition so I think you need to work out the original curve as a starting point or as a piggy back/interceptor setup. It does look pretty good to me, just need to find out how much it'll all cost (including dyno tune time) and weigh it up against something like an emanage that my mechanic/workshop is already familiar with.
