    Default 1jz temp switch

    Hey,

ive been doing some reading on the best way to hook up a temprature switch to my 1jz. So far the easiest way ive found is to put a temp switch directly into an existing hole in the system.

Ive taken a photo (i know its kinda blury) of the two connection on the inlet side of the cooling system. There are two sensors there (a smaller one above the green one) does anyone know what they are for?

    http://natens.customer.netspace.net.au/temp.jpg

The temp guage still works with the green (bottom one) disconnected so its not a temp sender. Is that the one i replace with the temp switch? I just dont want to rip it out if it is needed by the ECU or whatever to run.

Also does a 95on 90off temp switch sound about right?

    cheers guys

So basically the easiest way to do it is have a circuit that turns on and off with a certain reistance hmmmmm.

    Thanks sideshow for the info

tho that box is way to fancy for what i want.

they are switches which you have to drill and tap a hole into yr cooling system somewhere

if you goto your local parts shop ask for the trident catalogue and in there is a wide range of thermo switches

if your car's using a 1J radiator that originally had a hydraulic fan setup, you can remove the sensor in the bottom tank of the radiator and replace it with a tridon thermofan switch.

Perhaps a silly suggestion but waht about a temp gauge sender holder? One that you cut the top radiator line and clamp in place. If you know what I mean... You could mount it on either the top or bottom radiator hose, or any where with the right size hose I guess. You can get em from just about every auto store, speco make soem I think.

    thanks for the replies guys

sourced a speco switch mount for $35 and a TFS 148 temp switch for $23 (good price) and wired them up to my thermos.

The tfs148 is 95 on 90 off but its on all the time once the car is warmed up, should have i gone the next one up (100on 95off) or should it be sticking before 90 degs?

1j's run pretty warm but I would have gone for the one you have also. I had mine switching on at 92 as I am a temp freak. Get scared when it gets close to 100.

so i assume yours turns off at 87? does it stay on most of the time? or does it only turn on when youve been stationary for a while?

Mine was through microtech ecu. I don't have it wired up through there anymore just on a switch. I only turn it on when I stop for a period of time.

On mine I replaced the temp gauge sender with a TFS 148 (and have the same problem with it being on all the time and about to swap it for a TFS 157) and for the temp gauge I removed the alloy temp sensor housing and drilled and taped the flat side that sits next to the motor , it is very well consealed and has plenty of meat for the sensor
