Default hid xenon kits, how good are they?

    hey guys,

ive been looking at the hid xenon kits on ebay for a few months now, and watched them drop in price from $600+, to -$200....

how good are they compared to nomal light globes,

i like my lights nice and bright,... hign beam wil be sorted with a nice pair of small 100w spotties

and they say 35w....where as a normal globe is 55/60w?

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Xenon-Light-H...QQcmdZViewItem

theres quite a few listed on ebay.....

any help clearing this up will be greatly appreciated,

The difference of halogen bulb & HID bulb
    Section................................HID buld...................Halogen Bulb
    P-consumption......................35W.............. ...............55W
    Brightness(cd)................. 200,000cd................... 67,500cd
    Luminance(lm)......................1,900~3,200lm ..............1,550lm
    Temperature(.K)...................... 4,200~12,000.K...........3,200.K

    Life(Hr).................................approx 3,000 Hr sustained........approx, 400Hr sustained

    what does all that mean?

just get plus50 or plus60 halogens.... and good lenses.

unless you are replacing the reflector and lense with something copmpatible with the HID...

oh, and ebay $200 HID specials? thats about the price of the globes themselves...

As tempting as it is to try them at this price, HID kits I've seen have been pretty average. The reflector in a halogen headlamp is optically wrong. However, you might find more joy here:

I tried it in my sprinter, first some unknown globes to the +50s and I coudlnt tell the difference and then I went to 6500K HIDs and it made the other globes look like they wernt on seriously. I once used to my car drove a sprinter with stock lights and a few times I checked if the lights were on because they were so dull.

    Get 6500 for pure white
    5000 for off white

keep in mind though I have to face my lights right down to stop people high beaming me, kinda defeats the purpose

blake: think of your fellow road users - there's enough twats on the road with over-bright and poorly adjusted headlights (not to mention fog/driving/testicle lights) without adding more over-bright flickering HiDs...

pAuL: colour temperature=K=colour of the light.

    lm = luminance
cd = candella (candle power / brightness)

    DONT GET HIDs!!!

If you want brightness - please see my quad H4 headlight conversion guide. It's more than enough light, and about 50x better than stock.

Seriously, DONT convert to HID's unless you get the proper reflectors, adjusters, etc etc etc.... basically you need to spend over $1000 to do it properly.

I've often been tempted to smash people's headlights who have bodgy HID conversions. Instead I give them a good dose of 400W worth of high beams.
