Did you put one wire to battery and earth the others to see if they spark? That is a good way to destroy the switch. You would be better putting a wire to battery and using a test light to check for power on the other wires, or even better again, use an ohm meter to check for continuity.
One wire will be common and the other two are outputs, one for park lights, one for headlights. I just checked a corolla headlight switch I have here (they look the same and have the same colour wiring as the one in your pic) and got the following.
White- Common
Yellow- park lights
Red- Head lights
I would power the lights through relays when you wire up the mini, because if they are anything like the corolla ones they get a bit warm with anything better than the standard sealed beam headlights.
